Description "You can Choose the Path of Needles or the Path of Pins. The Path of Needles is quick and easy, the Path of Pins is long and hard."
Wanting to reach her Grandmother quickly, Red turned down the Path of Needles.

I love the story of Red Riding Hood-- the ORIGINAL story which was basically a warning to young girls about being raped by men who behaved like beasts.
... Then the metaphor for men became werewolves, then it changed to just wolves and along the way the aspects of woman subjugation and rape were cut out of the story. The Path of Needles was a euphemism for prostitution and the Path of Pins was a euphemism for finishing school and the like. So, the proper and improper ways for a girl to become a woman.

Also-- did you know the Woodcutter was an addition to downplay the power of women and the necessity for them to rely on men to protect them? Originally, Red Riding Hood escaped the Man/Werewolf and sought the aid of some old washerwomen who tricked and then drowned him. But poor Red never escaped the Wolf and the Woodcutter had to save her.
