Description Smith's Longspurs breed on the dry areas of the arctic tundra. They spend the winter in a very limited area of the lower 48 U.S. States, from Nebraska to Texas, and are very rarely seen outside of that area. This individual was the second ever documented in Maine, and one of very few every on the east coast. Based on plumage and pattern of this bird's median wing coverts, it seemed to be an immature female.
