Description Eric Morecambe, a giant in British comedy would have celebrated his 80th birthday today if he was still alive.

When I was young Christmas wasn't Christmas without watching the Morecambe and Wise Christmas Special on TV.

I've just finished this today and I've rushed it a bit at the end as I really wanted to get it completed on his birthday. So I might yet decide to go back to it.

Portrait referenced from the front cover of his biography 'Life's not Hollywood, it's Cricklewood' written by Eric's son Gary.

2H - 6B graphite pencils on A3 Bristol board.

Great portrait! I love Eric, he's so cool.

My Nan got his autograph, and sat on the train with him and Ernie!

Best portrait of Eric on dA!

Thanks!

Me too! loved him to bits!

I live very near to where he grew up, I get to hear a few stories from some of the older generation locals who'd met him.

Thank you, lucky you meeting him. I only live about 5 miles from where his parents lived and many people around here have stories to tell of their encounters with him, but I never personally had the pleasure.

You did a good job aging him with the wrinkles without making it look overdone ( a lot of ppl overdo wrinkles and they look like cracks and crags)...but you made it natural. I don't recognize the person (he kinda looks like the guy who played Austin Power's dad). You even did the pipe with great preciseness...sometime's it can be hard to capture the reality of simple objects...but you done good. Also, I thought your previous drawing of the kid was just great, really liked it!

Thank you so much for your comments, I really appreciate them. I think it was Michael Caine who played Austin Power's dad. I'm not surprised you don't know this guy, he died in 1984, so it's a bit before your time. I also don't know how big he was in the States, maybe you have to old and British, like me, to recognise him.
