"If your cat is larger than your 'dog', you don't have a dog." If people aren't treating small dogs like babies, they are calling them "rats". It's detestable. It's no wonder why these dogs are flooding the shelters (if they aren't in the pound or anything, then people have done injustice to them). It's no wonder why they end up aggressive or scared in the wrong hands. Small dogs deserve love as well as proper training. I'm not even really a dog person but this still frustrates me because I grew up with Dachshunds and despite their stubbornness and inherent aggression, they are really great dogs. But what are they known for? Being hotdogs with legs. Having the abhorrent nickname "wiener dog". I know Chihuahua have it worse but regardless, it's stupid and should not happen. People should really stop being judgemental against small dogs. Just because a canine can't necessarily take down and bite someone or is helpful to humans doesn't make the animal any less a dog. Any canine, big or small, is capable of wrecking someone's face if threatened. Some people do not need protection or anything like that; a dog is simply a companion, first and foremost. The best part about small dogs is that they are perfect lap-warmers. A German Shepherd is just too big for that. Small dogs are used for emotional therapy and while bigger dogs can help just about anyone, and elderly person cannot hold a big dog; hence the usefulness of a small dog.
