Margie hadn't been to a proper beach in what had felt like literal years. Summers upon summers of unrelenting office work kept her in a mindset of "I don't need to take a 'me' trip" and chained to her small town in Indiana. Luckily, she had a ticket out of the way of monotony, and that was her eccentric, goofy friend Tasha. Tasha was a strange girl since the two of them met in college, always getting new clothes and new furniture left and right, and always having the attention of a new boy every day (despite the mountains of one-day pets that frequented her dorm room). They had remained friends after college, and stayed in touch over instagram. One day, at the beginning of the summer, Tasha had reached out insisting that they must take a girls trip to catch-up, and sure enough a month later, here they were, relaxing on the beaches of Florida without a care in the world.

On the first day of their vacation, Margie rushed out to the beach to start a day of relaxation and sun; bolting excitedly through a flock of seagulls on the beach, scaring them away.

"What the hell did you do that for, Margie?"
"What? I scared the seagulls away! Everyone does that, it's fun!"
"Uhh... not to me. I really like seagulls."
"Well yeah, but they're still fun to scare, they're the 'rats of the sky!'"
"Offensive much? (although i really like rats too)"
"Oh come on, lighten up a little, you know I was just playing around!"
"Why don't... you lighten up a little?" Tasha said with a mischievous smirk, watching as the confused girl across from her began to pick up her feet from the sand with meticulous placement, fingers fusing and webbing into avian flippers. "Last one in the water is a rotten egg!"

As Margie charged for the beautiful blue ripples before her, her fingers whipped backwards with the pull of the wind, palm enlarging and skin flapping downwards, as a white coat of feathery appendages began to sprout from her dashing arms. Her mouth puckered and pulled intot he view of her face as she charged, eyes closed towards the glistening water, "WhaAAARk are you waitIIIng for?"; her voice growing gravelly through the excited calls she made back to her focusing friend.

"I'm sure you won't mind being that rat of the sky, bestie" Tasha chuckled to herself as she watched the first pings of tail feathers jut out above her butt as she crashed into the water. "Wait for me!"
