Description
Basic Information
Name: Veronica Moore
Age: 23
Birthday: February 5th
Gender: Female
Height: 5’ 2”
Residence: Tirtouga Town
Personality: Veronica had always been reliable as a child. Having two younger siblings, she took it upon herself to help care for them, especially when having to deal with the occasionally hellish conditions at home. She did her best to bring comfort and to create a safe place for her siblings at home, and to friends in need at school, knowing how important it was for others to have a sanctuary where they could stay.
Taking care of others would often drain her energy though, and she would find herself not caring about the things that mattered most. Making sure she got proper nutrition, proper rest, cared about her studies… All of those went out the window first. That apathy could bleed over into other aspects, and eventually her other responsibilities would break away.
When life got tough like this, Veronica would try to escape. Daydreams, mild drugs, getting deep into fantasy novels- if it could prevent her from considering the consequences to her actions, she would use it to her advantage. Anytime she was in the middle of it and considered trying to get everything back on track, her anxieties would rear its ugly head and sink her further into despair. Each little wisp of anxiety would hang onto her like a web, their weight holding her down as if it were lead.
But life would always come knocking again. Something would click in her head and she’d be able to pull herself together, get her ducks in a row and come back to reality to face what she had been running from. There were others that depended on her, after all; And if nothing else, they were worth fighting for.
History:
{TW/CW: Mention of verbal and alcohol abuse, severe traffic accident and mention of death. Minor depiction of depression and drug abuse}
Veronica was always the kid that parents didn’t have to worry about or fuss over; cool, calm and collected, the Mawile kept to herself and never stirred up trouble for the adults in her life. Some may have found this strange, but for the Moore household, it was normal. Required, even. Donald Moore was never a physically violent man, though he was found to be drunk often and could be verbally brutal to his wife and children when caught at a bad hour, though her older siblings (both boys) tended to get away with more than the girls did.
And so any attempts to garner a volatile reaction from her by school bullies, teasing cousins and annoying older siblings couldn’t shake her. At some point they learned that trying to do so was pointless, and moved on to others to try and torment instead.
Schoolwork was never an issue for her, neither striving nor failing at any one subject for the early part of her life. Most things went smoothly for her and she often didn’t have to study or give too much effort for a good grade. Until high school, that is.
Studies kept getting more difficult and she found it hard to focus or want to give her time of day to anything that wasn’t personally interesting to her; she had become apathetic at worst, and at best unnerved at the difficulties of the tasks. When it came to things like English and Math she struggled heavily and as a result cared less for the subjects, choosing to give her time to things like Science and History, of which she tended to excel at. Biology (especially when they went over the botanical sections) seemed to fascinate her the most.
Of course the fact of her failing grades in other subjects couldn’t go on any further before her teachers intervened, and her mother, Iris, ended up meeting with each of them (Veronica in tow) to get to the bottom of the issue. After several discussions and a few weeks of hard work, Veronica was able to make up the grades and get back on track for graduating on time with the rest of her classmates. It taught Veronica the importance of being able to rely on others when you’re struggling, and motivated her to be that pillar herself for her younger siblings when they needed it most.
Both Veronica and her mother decided it was best for everyone involved if her father were left unaware of these failings. It was better that way.
Once Veronica began college, she chose to pursue her interest in plants further, starting as a science major with an emphasis in Botanical Research. She kept her grades and GPA at a relatively high level, as her enthusiasm for the subject fueled her intrigue to keep up with her studies. Life had been going well; her older brothers had recently been married, and her father had begun seeking help in order to reconnect with his wife and family in a more healthy manner; even seeking marriage counseling so the couple could stay together. She was well into her third year when life took a nosedive.
Her parents had been on their way to one of their counseling sessions when the accident happened. Donald had made it out with a concussion and major bruising, a few cracked ribs and a broken arm. Iris was not so lucky, as the passenger side had taken the brunt of the hit. The news came to her last, having missed the phone call while in class. Everything shattered into pieces after that.
Veronica was broken. How could this happen? Why her? Why her mom? It was… too much. The Mawile searched desperately for a way to escape this knowledge, anything to help her cope with the pain. She eventually found herself with the wrong crowd at the completely wrong time, and decided that their way of living was easier to deal with than what her own life had dealt to her.
More than willing to try, Veronica had said ‘yes’ to just about anything offered to her. Cigarettes? Sure, everyone smokes. Weed? Might as well throw that in the mix too. Shrooms? Absolutely, who cares! Well, turns out the school cares when your grades start plummeting. It only took a month of Veronica’s escapist thrill for a notification to be sent to her father. Don, angrier, drunker, and lonelier than ever was impossible to not feel incensed to act out against his daughter when he learned of this information.
Veronica was taken out of school to be brought home, where she took the brunt of Don’s new anger. She used her own ways to escape in between the volleys of insults, not really caring what he was saying. In truth, even Don didn’t really care. The pair just knew that they were hurting, and neither of them knew what to do to remedy that. Seeing everyone from their family home in distress, Veronica’s older brothers decided it was time to intervene. They knew who could help.
Carlisle Moore, Don’s older brother, was called to quell the turmoil in his relatives' lives. A gentle farmer living life on Staryu Isles, Carlisle had been mostly unaware of just how bad his brother and nieces were dealing with their loss. After hearing from his nephews all about it, he didn’t hesitate to step in to do what he could. Carlisle had a knack for handling the troubles of others, and Veronica felt a comfort when her uncle arrived; he always seemed more akin to her mother than her father.
She cried for several hours that first week he came, the tears staining his shoulder as he did his best to soothe everyone who needed it. Settling his brother's rage enough to see the damage he had caused took a matter of days, but there was still a lot of healing to do. Carlisle considered this, and decided that removing the girls from the home would be the best solution for now. Getting help from his nephews, he had them packed up and back to the Isles in no time, the brothers left to rotate on ‘dad watch’ for now.
Being on the farm was healing for her; being surrounded by plants and nature felt natural, and it seemed to calm the turmoil inside. Once Veronica was able to cope without her escapist ways anymore, she decided it was time to try and get her life together again. She began practicing good habits; helping her uncle on his farm, becoming a dependable person for her sisters again, trying to reapply to school. Having a purpose made it so much easier for her to function.
Her life became pretty routine again. Take care of the farm, look at school applications, take her sisters on small trips and outings. A few months had passed like this, and eventually Autumn had started to settle in. She felt nervous with these thoughts, unsure how her college application would go, and not wanting to go back home… Carlisle sensed this hesitance, and an idea sparked into thought.
Why not stay here and take over the farm?
Veronica was astonished to say the least. Take it over? What about him? And the girls? Her uncle consoled all her woes. He and the girls would return to the family home, and help Donald finish his healing. The idea of being alone made her nervous… but it also felt so freeing. Could she really take that step?
“Finish your degree first, then make up your mind. It’ll help you with running the place, I bet!” He just chuckled. He was also so sure of himself and his decisions. “I’ll come by every week to check on you and help out with whatever you need. You should even apply to the local college so you don’t have to travel far away!”
How could she say no?
