Bio: Alyx was born into a family that wasn’t particularly wealthy nor poor. He was a normal young boy with spunk and a taste for adventure. He liked to play with any old sticks he could find and pretend he was fighting evil. He always hoped that one day… He could be the hero. Like in one of the fairy tales he read. He liked to read stories about unexpected victors, and how they had to sometimes do what was right over what they wanted and sometimes placing their lives at risk. Alyx loved all of that, the adventure, the thrills, and combat, and beating bad guys. And from then on Alyx swore to himself he’d become a hero like that too. Alyx’s mother was a gentle seamstress that designed for all sorts of people, that most of the time Alyx showered with questions on who they were or if they had any stories to tell. Alyx loved his mother very much. She was the one always supporting him, even his almost impossibly seeming dreams on becoming a swordsman adventurer.
However… Alyx’s father did not share the same qualities or views on their son. Alyx’s father was not so kind to Alyx. His father was Knight serving under the King. He was very strict with rules, and the “word of the king” kind of thing. He never smiled and was always looking down on Alyx’s childish dreams of becoming a hero. He said that the only hero’s there were, were those who served under the king and protected the land. But to Alyx, “Protecting the land” seemed a lot like walls and rules, a cage that only the king held the key to. But Alyx knew better to tell his father his views… The times Alyx did speak up to his father, he had earned a harsh smack to the face, or even beatings in some cases when Alyx spoke out of term or didn’t do as his father asked. And when his worried mother comforted him when he cried, she’d tell Alyx over and over that his father loved him and he didn’t mean it… But Alyx found that all too hard to believe.
When Alyx reached the age of 14, his father began to train him in the ways of battle, and bought Alyx his first sword. At first Alyx was exited that he was going to learn to fight, but that was until he learned what it was to train with his father…. He was harshly trained; his father mercilessly worked him for days on end some months. His father did not except any form of weakness from his son, and if Alyx did something wrong or failed to complete an exercise, he was punished by the steel blade of his father’s sword. Alyx hated training with his father, and sometimes snuck out to travel into town or go sightseeing, which when caught by his father… Didn’t end well. Especially when he began to have a knack for bringing home stolen items… This started his soon to be career as a thief. Alyx began not to care for his father’s training. He was pretty good with a sword at only 15 and was already taking part in fighting arenas… Which he hid from his parents until one night, when his father heard from someone that his son was seen at one of the nearby fighting stadiums.
This caused Alyx’s father to be furious with him. He screamed and cursed at Alyx telling him that only the worthless and less skilled fighters go to something as disgusting as what his son had been doing. But Alyx retaliated and yelled back, contradicting everything his father said to him as they clashed once again with their differing views and beliefs. But as if their relationship couldn’t get any worse, the last thing Alyx said, really caused his father to be angry; He told his father that no Knight could ever understand what it was to be a true swordsman, and that was it. Alyx’s father would no longer tolerate his son’s rebellious behavior. He walked into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. And as Alyx’s mother fell into tears and begged his father not to harm their son, Alyx was struck in the face with the blade of the knife by his father, forever to remain there. But Alyx would not let this end there. He was determined to show his father and trainer that his ways were wrong. At his young age, Alyx challenged his own father to a duel. Which Alyx fought terribly hard but was unable to beat his skilled father. His father said one thing to him before re-sheathing his sword; “When you are strong enough to beat me Alexander, I will treat you with respect.” From then on, Alyx kept his thoughts to himself, and never spoke out against his father, but knew he could always go to his mother with his feelings about his father.
At 16, Alyx was enrolled into the Kings army as a Knight like his father. But this only meant more rules, more walls… More glares from his father. Alyx was changed after that. He acted more seriously, and would always practice with his sword in hopes of not making his father proud, rather to keep him off his back. He would fight when summoned into battle, exceptionally well, but he hated every moment of it. He hated taking the lives of others without justice behind it. He felt as if he were a dog, taking out anyone out the king deemed unworthy. And although his mother and now father were proud of him… He felt so wrong. He felt like a villain… rather than the hero swordsman. But would not disobey… in fear of losing his father’s proudness.
But everything was going to change for him one day. One day his father, and himself were assigned to a small group of Knights to find and exterminate an old escaped criminal that had been committing series of crimes in the town. When they found the said criminal… He was protecting two younger children. They were his own, that he had been stealing for and committing crimes only to protect them. He begged the Knights to mercy him… But the knights were to obey and carry out their assignment flawlessly. But Alyx… looking into the eyes of the man and the scared tear-streaked faces of the children… Just couldn’t stand by to see them killed. Before anyone could harm the man, Alyx leaped out and shielded the attack with his sword. He demanded that they leave the man alone and that he would not stand by and watch him be murdered in front of his children. Those who stood up against Alyx’s proclaiminent were struck down by his sword. This earned a disgusted look from his father, and many curses. When word reached the King of Alyx’s betrayal to the mission, Alyx was arrested, and for his treasonous act, was sentenced to execution. But when Alyx’s mother found out about this, she dropped to the ground horrified and crying. His father however, cold heartedly did not stick up for their son, feeling as though Alyx deserved what he was getting. Alyx felt so betrayed, but he said to the king’s face that he’d rather die than spend a single moment slaughtering the innocent whenever he was asked to by the king.
But Alyx’s mother refused to let her only son get executed like that… So she willingly volunteered herself in Alyx’s place, taking the blame for everything he had done. Alyx horrifiedly begged his mother not to do this, but she only insisted as she gave a tear filled smile to her son one last time, before she went off with the executionists, to take on the fate that was originally supposed to be Alyx’s. Alyx had to be held back by the guards from running out to stop his mother, and kicked, screamed, and cursed at them all. ‘Why?? Why??? This can’t possibly be happening!!” Alyx remembered thinking that day. Tears rolled down his face as he cursed at his father to stop his mother from getting killed like this. But his father remained still and quiet with a disappointed look to his face as he had chosen to be loyal to his king rather than his wife. “DAMN YOU FATHER! DO SOMETHING! THEY’RE GOING TO KILL HER! FATHER!! DON’T LET THEM DO THIS!! DAMN YOU!” Alyx shouted he watched in sheer terror as they prepared his mother for her execution. It was the most traumatic experience Alyx could ever remember… The sound that would forever haunt his dreams and terrify him for the rest of his life… The sound of that blade… Coming down onto his mother’s neck…
From that day forward… Alyx hated his father… Truly hated him… For what he’d done not to Alyx, but rather blamed him for the death of his mother. He didn’t speak to his father for years after that… They lived together and worked in the same division… but they would not speak. Not a word. Alyx trained by himself harder and harder every day to get stronger and to boost his skills. He kept working for the Knights up until one day he learned from talking villagers about a legendary sword… a sword that was said have unspeakable power…. to be able to pierce the heavens, and blind all evil with its light. It was hidden away with no directions or leads as to where it could be… But it was said that the swordsman that found it would not be bound by the earth or its rules, and would forever be deemed as the “Holy Swordsman”. After learning this… Alyx had found himself a new purpose…
One faithful day, Alyx approached his father and challenged him to yet the second duel ever since he’d learned to fight. These were the first words he’d spoken to his father in two years and his father narrowed his eyes and agreed. But this fight would not be like the others between them… No… This time, Alyx had trained himself, had endured the suffering of all, and had found his inner sense of justice and burning passion that his father had locked away from him… And Alyx did not fear his father, nor would lose to him. The fight was intense between two expertly skilled Swordsmen, and all around the clashing of swords could be heard. The battle ended with Alyx as its victor. Alyx had struck his father down and was about to give the last blow when he stopped and lowered his sword. “What are you doing? Are you still that foolish to not finish a battle once it’s started?” His father glared up at his son. “No father, this battle was far finished before it even started.” Alyx stated narrowing his eyes down at his father. “I will not kill you father. Because it isn’t right.” His father glared at him in shamefulness of his son. “You are a disgrace! Have you learned nothing from me?! From your mistake that cost your mother her life?!” His father growled. Alyx glared menacingly at his father pointing the steel edge of his blade at his father’s neck. “No I haven’t learned anything from you. What you tried to teach me was worthless. I have the skills I have now, because I, and only me, have been my soul trainer and believer. I will use my blade for justice, and only what I think is right. I fight for my beliefs and mine alone. I train to become stronger, not to prove myself to anyone. Especially not you. And THAT father… is what makes me a far better swordsman than you. It is why you are sitting there in the dirt at the hand of my blade. But even now father, that I’ve been able to defeat you, it would seem that is not enough. And so-“ Alyx said re-sheathing his sword. “I will bring you the legendary sword of the heroes. But I will do so by my rules, and my own strategies. Furthermore, I’m abandoning my role as a Knight, my past, and you. I will become a new person and live the life of an adventurer. So now, I bid you ado Mr. Roland.” Alyx smirked at his father before running off never again to return to his past life.
From that point on, Alyx lived a free life, with no boundaries or rules. No more harsh lessons and best of all he was free, and lived the life of traveling, thief swordsman. Still determined to find the legendary sword. No one ever knew where the “Alexander Fendrel” went, and never would he return.
