Hatched in the days when the Dragon Kingdom's borders stretched far and wide and Dragons were renowned as the leading the world in culture and technology, Redfria grew up with a major sense of pride in being a Dragon, joining the “Peacekeepers”, the Dragon Kingdom's defensive army, out of this pride. Over the centuries, she saw numerous non-Dragon civilisations rise and fall, but also the influence and innovation of Dragons fall despite her constant protests. She also quickly ascended the ranks of the Peacekeepers, becoming second in command by the time she was 56, and becoming Peacekeeper Commander at the age of 138. She was later given the honour of being an Elder despite her comparatively young age of 300 at the time, something she was sure she was given just to try and pacify her by notionally giving her more say while still ignoring her attempts to stop the Dragon Kingdom from declining further.
A little over 1100 years into her life, the Dragon Kingdom had shrunk down to a mere fraction of what it was and consisted of just the Dragon's ancestral homelands, a place that while idyllic, was small in area and technologically stagnant, with technological advancement all but being outlawed and only finding it's way in via other nations. Redfria had always found the increasing technological stagnation of the Dragons offensive and vocally pushed for Dragons to actually innovate, always getting shut down by the rest of the Elders. She had long since defied this ban on research and development in her off-duty hours by building an increasingly large laboratory on a remote volcanic island that was known almost solely for being uninhabitable and being a collection point for shipwrecks. It was on this island she discovered the Dark Crystals and would come to realise they could be used as a potent power source, dedicating much of her research towards the unusual crystals.
After over a millennia of living with the near-ban on technological development and serving alongside often incompetent other Elders whose inept leadership caused invasion after invasion from hostile neighbours such as the Gnorcs, she eventually snapped and decided the only way to stop the Dragons declining even further, let alone actually be more than weak recluses again, was to stage a coup. She had previously thought about launching a coup to save the Dragon Kingdom from it's own incompetence 200 years prior when the others Elders were actively pushing for Redfria to disband the Peacekeepers until an attempt at world domination by Malefor proved Redfria's point that the Peacekeepers were still needed, even if her equally valid point following Malefor's invasion that it was only thwarted because of the might of Dragons fell on completely deaf ears. To quickly gather an army, she strongarmed the Gnorc warlord Gnasty into supplying her with a sacrificial army, with which she tried to overthrow the Elders and create an empire where Dragons would be dominant and she would be their undisputed empress. Her initial attempt at empire failed, having made two fundamental errors in her plans, the first was using Gnorcs which failed because they were simply too dumb and required an overly convoluted command structure rather than the direct one she was used to as a Peacekeeper. While the second error was failing to account for a Dragon intervening, in this case a runt named Spyro. Her coup was working until Spyro gathered several of the non-dragon friends he'd made during previous invasions of the Dragon Kingom and managed to rout the last of her command infrastructure, a hastily repaired old fortress in the coldest regions of the Dragon Kingdom. She never personally intervened in defending the fortress having already grown frustrated at the convoluted and inefficient Gnorc command structure, instead she accepted the war was lost, executed Gnasty for his incompetence as Spyro and his allies stormed the fortress, before going into self exile at her lab.
Following this humiliating loss, her first utter failure of a war, she lost a little more sanity and retreated to her hidden lab, with the intent of making more solid plans while continuing with the roboticization of her Gnorc army, a process she had finally begun during the final days of her attempted coup. Once word reached that Spyro had “beaten” her and stopped her coup, mostly through the Elders declaring her to be banished and calling her the “Rogue Elder”, she made a quick return to the Dragon Kingdom to recruit a young Dragon named Ember (www.deviantart.com/roebot56/ar… ) who had always admired Redfria, but was afraid to be public about it. During these preparations and while waiting for her Gnorc army to be roboticized, one of her experiments in creating inter-dimensional portals accidentally shunted her to Sonic's world, at a time roughly a few days after the Chaos incident. During initial scouting of this new world, she was intrigued by the floating wreck of one of the downed Egg Carriers, seeing the abandoned flying fortress as both a perfect weapon to return to her world if it could be salvaged, as well as serve as a base of operations on Sonic's world while she was there. While salvaging the ship, she met Ava (www.deviantart.com/roebot56/ar… ), a Timber Wolf serving as a Captain in G.U.N. who had been ordered to investigate the downed ship. The two got off to a tense start, with Red initially seeing Ava as nothing more than a loose end best disposed of as a meal, but slowly the two became friends when the two started speaking and realised their goals of wanting their respective worlds to be safe were not dissimilar.
During the years of her self-imposed exile, Red quickly grew an attachment to both Ember and Ava. Ember became more than just her willing apprentice, becoming almost a daughter to Red, while Ava turned from unlikely ally and informant into Red's best friend. During these years Redfria would use tip-offs from Ava to salvage valuable Eggman technology from Sonic's world, while also following up on increasing numbers of rumours that led to her meeting Cynder (www.deviantart.com/roebot56/ar… ), a twisted Dragon Red considered to be a useful asset in her plans. Another major asset for Red's army came following the Neo-Metal Sonic incident, where Ava tipped Red off about the crashed Egg Fleet before G.U.N swarmed over it, prompting Redfria to drop everything she was doing and rapidly salvage enough of the fleet to retro-engineer an example of each ship, a process she managed to accomplish by using her refitted Egg Carrier, now known as the Crimson Carrier, and it's dimensional cannon to dimensional shunt some of the more intact wrecks to a barren area of land Redfria would eventually build a large-scale shipyard on.
She would get her revenge on Spyro and begin her campaign to become empress years later, shortly after the Black Arms incident on Sonic's world, using her newly constructed shipyard repairing salvaged Egg Fleet ships as bait to lure Spyro and his friends into an ambush where Redfria, along with her friends Ava, Ember and Cynder, dealt a fatal and televised blow to her world's supposed Heroes. The televised nature of the end of Spyro was an attempt by Red to try and shock her world into submitting, a tactic that while not exactly effective, did prompt at least some villages to submit without a fight for fear that they'd be wiped out like Spyro and his friends. Red also made the deliberate choice to ignore the Dragon Kingdom for a while before giving them her terms of surrender once neighbours such as Avalar had fallen to her rule. She did this knowing that out of all Dragons, the Peacekeepers still held some respect for her and would pressure the Elders to resign and ensure no Dragon blood was spilled rather than risk war with their old commander and a competent army. This part of the plan had been formulated by Red when she learned years prior from Ember that the Elder who replaced her was Cyril, a snobbish Dragon and ex-Peacekeeper who had fought alongside Red during Malefor's invasion.
