Description a second view of one of my scrap metal pieces - though from the angle on this one it looks like its just pounced- maybe i should get some wire cable and wind it into a big ball of yarn for this one to chase lol !

thankyou so much for the compliment i wish i had the equipment and space to make more pieces like this - this is one of the pieces of mine i made back when i was 19ish and studying art i no longer have welding gear or the space now so my works are far more digital nowadays

agreed - i have another few pics of a few other things i made like this - another couple of cats, a mouse a parrot and a tarantula (oh and a mini-dragon) i miss working like this but as i said i lack the space so most my work is fractal nowadays but i would so love to be able to do some welding again

yeah XD i saw, would you mind explaining to me what fractal manipulation is? it sounds very intriguing!

rockgem In reply to Night-and-autumn [2011-10-31 12:08:09 +0000 UTC]

of course not i'm probably not the best person to ask but i shall try.
first i shall quote good old wiki...
A fractal has been defined as "a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole

generally a fractal is a digital piece created using mathematics using aporgram like apophysis mandelbrot 3D unlrafractal etc. that echoes a lot of patterns found in nature ( such as leaves and trees etc)
now a fractal manipulation is when you take an image made in a fractal generating program and then do more to it using a second program such as photoshop GIMP etc or when you add non-fractal elements to it sich as photographs etc.
fractals made strictly in fractal generating programs are 'raw' fractals

hope that helps a little ?

I seem to like scrap sculpture creations of animals - this one looks great! Imaginative pose you've got there, and even little claws! How long abouts did it take?

rockgem In reply to SirFranPan [2010-09-23 15:44:28 +0000 UTC]

thankyou for the compliment on this piece. its been a long while since i actually made it - it was part of a college project of mine so it was always continually stop and start as well as scheduling time to use the welding bay and the forge so in truth i have no idea

That's very, very cool. How on earth did you make him?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rockgem In reply to SarahLaDuchesse [2009-02-11 22:46:49 +0000 UTC]

lol lots of pieces of scrap metal including inch thick metla bar a crane hook scrap sheet metal 2 large cogs some curain hooks some headlamp bulbs some copper wire and some metal tubing - lol either way a pile of scrap and some welding equipment lol he sits on top of my wardrobe at the moment but he is very large and very heavy lol so needless to say i do't move him about much unless to dust him off

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SarahLaDuchesse In reply to rockgem [2009-02-11 23:05:46 +0000 UTC]

O_O"

...

maybe when I'm older I could do something like that.
Maybe once I reach highschool (junior high student now,7th grade)
I'll take a welding class and try to do something like that.
Honestly though, that's a very creative piece of work.

rockgem In reply to SarahLaDuchesse [2009-02-11 23:53:54 +0000 UTC]

gotcha! well i made those when i was studying art it was foundation fdiploma so i woudl have been about 18 or 19 when i made them - its oneof the thigns i really miss frombeign in education the acess to the equipment to make things like this

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SarahLaDuchesse In reply to rockgem [2009-02-12 18:53:10 +0000 UTC]

And I bet it's harder to access the equipment now, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rockgem In reply to SarahLaDuchesse [2009-02-12 21:20:37 +0000 UTC]

well i could get it sure - but our house is kinda small so essentially no room to set up a welding bay so to speak - though maybe once i have tidied out some i might go locate pehraps a soldering iron and the like and look at creating things like this but on a much smaller scale

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SarahLaDuchesse In reply to rockgem [2009-02-12 22:46:39 +0000 UTC]

I couldn't make anything on a much smaller scale,I don't even now how to weld,or get my hands on any metal,or convince my parents to let me handle dangerous blow torches and welding material >.<
