Description
Built by Budd and EMD in 1934, the Burlington Pioneer Zephyr was one of the first successful streamliners to operate in America. This diesel multiple unit (DMU) train ran from Denver to Chicago in 13 hours, achieving an average speed of 77 miles per hour and a momentary speed of 112 miles per hour, which greatly increased the public interest in streamlining and diesel power. The train was donated to the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, and several models of it have been built, including this 1/43 scale model at the Hara Model Railway Museum in Yokohama.
