Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel "Daughter of Mirkwood" from The Hobbit.I've been working on this one on and off for the past two months, originally I planned for this to be done just in time for the movie to come out but I was just too busy so close to the holidays. This was definitely the most time consuming drawing to date. I would go by days without touching it because I had no idea how I was going to draw certain sections of the hair, especially around her shoulders.Β I started this drawing because I loved the reference photo and was intrigued by the addition of a new character. I have since seen the movie and loved it as well as this character.
I tried to edit this picture as best I could to the original but for some reason my camera always makes my drawings look like they have a grainy texture, not sure why.

I'm sorry, I have another question
When you did the hair.. did you erase the nearly white hairs after the darker parts were finished? (or are they done with the gel pen?) I have a kneaded eraser, but i can't get it so small to erase hairs with it.. Or if so, it gets dull when it touches the paper

For the shoulder area I did both. The very white hairs I drew with gel pen but all of the other ones I just used an eraser to draw them over top of the finished darker areas. The finer hairs around the shoulder I drew with a Tombow Mono eraser, I kept the edges of the eraser sharp by running it along sandpaper.
I used a combination of the Tombow Mono and a kneadable eraser for the flyaway hairs on the top right of the drawing where most of the light is concentrated. I like using the kneadable eraser for hair but it does take time to draw with it, I mold my eraser into a fine edge/ line and get about two or three good strokes before I have to recreate an edge.
Another way is to actually draw out the hairs first and try to avoid drawing in that area, I did that more for my Descendant of Odin drawing, and then went over it with a white gel pen. It is much easier drawing out the individuals hairs when you are dealing with short hair like a mustache or beard, I sometimes do that with longer hair but it's just faster to draw them in with a white gel pen.
