I enjoy drawing with graphite, but I can never get them to scan correctly. The super dark colors shine and wash out and the midtones blend together, though simpler pieces can be corrected in photoshop (at least to some extent) [link]
if I don't add in darker tones, it's usually less noticeable [link]
I have a Doctor Hooves and Derpy drawing that blows these out of the park, but I can't correct it in photoshop unless I spend hours reworking every little detail :C
I didn't use photo reference for those, btw. I set them up in real life and copied what I saw, as part of a portfolio for an audition to the high school I'll be attending next year.

The school I applied to put me in Digital Media instead of drawing and painting because they said they couldn't teach me anything in traditional arts (most likely meaning the curriculum isn't advanced enough for me to benefit rather than they literally can't teach me). It may have been a good thing they didn't see my recent work, or else they would have put me in another pottery class. Hopefully, I'll be able to upload some things I do in that class to dA.
