This is so lovely and soft, the way you have framed it also benifits it. Really good focus

Looks like its a challenging condition for a shot but I think you metered this quite well. The textures/details of the flower are evidently visible and I really love the bokeh.
The color is very gentle and I agree with the title, I feel calm looking at it. The framing is great and I really love it.
It looks like a little bit soft though. I'm not sure what causing it. It could be the downsizing effect but no worries you could always apply a little USM to it.

Nice work!

Thanks for your comment.
For the softness, i really wanted something gentle and soft. I almost added a blur filter to make the photo look softer but finally i didn't (hopefully you could say). So i guess that if it is a bit soft, it is almost intentional. It may also come from the downsizing because the full size picture looks very sharp (too sharp?). And finally the DOF is very very shallow at 200mm f6.3 - only a few centimeters i think.
Anyways glad to have your opinion on this photo. This kind of shot is quite new for me and i'm not already used to the settings for such a special lighting. But i learn!

I see, no worries then
About blur filter, you might interested experimenting with 'diffuse glow' filter. I found that it make my pics look more subtle and softer.
I'm glad you shared this with us.

Thanks for your advice about blur filters. I'll try this asap.
Maybe for tomorrow and for something new... I can't say more for the moment because for now it looks really crapy and i really have to work on it to find the good balance. Maybe i'll submit this tomorrow ... maybe not!
Unfortunately i have to work a bit this afternoon so i doubt it will be for today (Finite element method ... i hate this subject)

No worries man, dont pressure yourself! Just get on with your priorities. There are much more important things besides photography anyway

Spring in all ist glory!
Love the minimalistic approach here and the DOF…it transcends a nice softness…just like spring itself…
Well done!

I really like the overall composition of this, but I guess I don't really like the border. To me it would seem better if it was a straight line all the way around It's nice to see warm weather approaching!

No i didn't use a background. Actually it is only the sky. I overexposed the photo so the sky looks white.

beautiful! haw did you mak the background blurred, but the flowers in front sharp?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ricoo In reply to Kibeth13 [2006-04-01 17:59:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for your comment.

To answer your question, it is quite simple. When you use a camera with a lens you have a limited depth of field (DOF). It means you have only a limited area which will be sharp and the rest -behind and forward- will be blurred.
If u use a compact camera, the DOF is very large so this is not always visible but with an SLR in particular, the DOF is very shallow if u use the full aperture.
I'm not sure to be clear. The best for you is to read this : [link] It will be far easier for me and for you.
Don't hesitate to send me a note if you don't undestand something.
