Description This project ended up drawing upon many techniques I've learned in my four semesters of jewelry class. There's riveting, a hinge, piercing (sawing), a bit of soldering, combining base and precious metals, a patina, and the inclusion of found objects. I don't think this pendant would be the same without any one of those elements, and I'm really happy with how the whole piece turned out.

I finished it just in time to submit it to the student art show. It juried in, and due to the fact that there were some stunning jewelry pieces in the show, I didn't think my piece had a shot at winning anything. Imagine my amazement, then, when it was awarded first place in the jewelry category! Needless to say, that was certainly a nice (and welcome!) surprise.

Copper, nugold, sterling silver and found objects (yes, those are real watch parts and a real steel key) with an M-24 patina on a sterling silver bead chain.

so beautiufl, and considering the amount of technique and work that went in to this, you definitely deserved the recognition! I miss jewelry making... if only to see all the cool stuff other people make!

Beautiful work Rachel and congrats on getting first place...
The details are spot on and the patina really brings it all together...
Looks like an antique that could have been unearthed and made presentable...
Great work as always my friend!
Take care

Thank you! I will be opening an Etsy shop for my jewelry and sculptures very soon, as a matter of fact. I'll post a journal announcing it when it's up and running.

Freaking amazing. I LOVE the watch gears. I'm totally in love with old/found objects, unique and antique looking things. Skeleton keys are my favorite things. It's steampunky, too, which I'm also a fan of. BEAUTIFUL piece. You definately deserved first. I love it.

I love it. Besides this being a lovely piece of work (the pendant), the photo is a work of art itself. One of your biggest fans...

Really nice work. I especially love the key and the little door in the heart.
I wish the school I went to had more metalsmithing/jewelry classes; it really is a lot of fun. (:

How long did this one take?

Thanks! Glad you like it.

Hard to say how long it took because I worked on it sporadically. As a very rough estimate, I'd say somewhere between 12 and 20 hours.

And yeah, jewelry making is really, really fun!

Thanks again!
