Description Kyosuke rounded the corner, and without even so much as glancing at me, he and Kamyla made eye contact. The two froze, Kyosuke stopping dead in his tracks and Kamyla's yo-yo falling and staying down, suspended inches from the ground but still spinning on its string from its momentum.

At that point, two things happened in rapid succession.

One, Kamyla's yo-yo fell, bouncing a few times before its spin carried it across the floor, stopping as it hit Kyo's foot. This was because Kamyla's sword had appeared in her hand faster than, had I had my camera at the time, it could've been filmed. Could she make her sword appear out of thin air like that? Or had my eyes not caught it extending from the palm of her hand the way I'd seen it when she fought Fear Ghoul on the rooftop.

Oh, and two, Kyosuke, my best friend since elementary school, the same guy who was on the receiving end of wedgies up until our first year of high school, the guy who jumped out of the way of the ball during the baseball unit in phys ed, stopped the downward swing of Kamyla's sword.

            With lightning.

            In his hands.

The electricity between his palms flared a brilliant blue that left spots in my eyes, and Kamyla's sword was thrown back and high into the air, pushing the girl off balance and sending her stumbling backwards. In the same motion, Kyosuke threw his palms forward and the blue lightning flew out and would've caught Kamyla square in the chest, if she hadn't gotten her sword back down to block the blow.

It left the two in a stand-off, Kyosuke's palms forward with lightning surging from his hands, and Kamyla with her sword held in front of her, the supposed electricity amazingly not causing her to spasm like someone who'd, say, carried a toaster into the bathtub with them. Instead, her entire body trembled, her raven-black hair crackling with static electricity, with blue sparks coursing up her arms.

I hadn't been able to find my voice just then, but I managed to retrieve it just then. "Guys, what the hell-"

My question was cut short when Kamyla suddenly let go of her sword, diving to the side just as Kyo's lightning hit the wall behind her, taking a good chunk out of the plaster before fizzling away faster than it had appeared. Kamyla came out of her roll, snatching her fallen sword from the ground and dashing towards Kyosuke, who'd already started forming another mass of electricity in his hands.

However, before he could bring it to little more than mere sparks between his palms, Kamyla launched herself at Kyo, shoulder-first, hitting him low and hard and sending the two of them sliding across the floor, coming to a stop with Kamyla's sword a hair's breadth from Kyo's neck, and Kyo's hands on either side of her head, the backs of his hands crackling with energy.

Once I was certain that this particular standstill wouldn't end and cut me off again, I tried again.

"Kyo, this is Kamyla, the transfer student. Kamyla, this is my best friend Kyosuke. Now, as the only one in this room who can't pull swords out of their palms or throw around lighting like they're freakin' Zeus, I'd really like to know why the hell you two want to kill each other. The abridged version."
