Earls Rush In by Jennifer Haymore
Over the past couple of months, Regency era historical romances have just seemed to be my cup of tea, and I would absolutely recommend Earls Rush In by Jennifer Haymore to anyone who feels the same.
As a warning: this book does contain spice, so if that is not your thing, then this isn’t the book for you.
I’m a reader that tends to like painless romances with just a dash of angst and drama, and this is the perfect mixture. There’s some familiar tropes done here, but I would say it’s unique enough to make it memorable.
The writing flows well and is easy for the average reader to understand. The dialogue also fits with the style of the internal monologues of our main characters which works in the story’s favor. There are some liberties taken with the overly proper language that this time period had, and some hints of modern lingo, but I would say it wasn’t enough to pull me out of the story at all.
I felt very engrossed with the characters, and had quite a tough time putting it down. All the plot points felt logical in how they were executed according to both the character actions as well as time period expectations. Although the settings themselves weren’t described in too much detail, it only encourages readers to focus on the characters. There were several times where I felt frustrated with the characters and their choices, but to me that is a huge plus: the characters made me feel something. And when these conflicts are resolved properly, the ending feels so rewarding.
All in all, I had such a fun time reading this. I rate it a 4/5 stars. Not perfect, but most definitely enjoyable, and possibly something I could pick back up again on a cozy rainy day.
