DALLAS — North Texas Catholics called for prayers and strength among their community after Pope Francis forcibly removed the conservative bishop of Tyler Saturday morning, who was a leading critic of the pontiff and his progressive reforms. Bishop Joseph Strickland has accused Pope Francis of “undermining the deposit of faith,” and expressed criticism with his acceptance of LGBTQ+ Catholics. On Saturday morning, the Diocese of Tyler announced on its website that Strickland had been “relieved of pastoral governance” and that Bishop Joe Vasquez of Austin was appointed as a temporary administrator. Strickland, 65, served as the fourth bishop of the Diocese of Tyler for 11 years. He was named bishop on Nov. 28, 2012, according to the Diocese’s website , and has amassed a local and global following for his conservative views. Various Catholics and religious leaders took to social media Saturday to share their thoughts on Strickland’s removal. More: www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/nort…
