...I'm dying to know how that 'crackling' effect was made on the background D:

I've seen people use surfaces that already have that texture and I've seen other paint it all by hand (which is insane)

i achieved the crackling effect by priming the wood with a special paint called "crackle". i didn't hand paint every little crack... i chose the easier way

both - i sprayed some paint called "crackle" on an old board... then i sorta emphasized some of the cracks with paint.
