Description little witch academia is definitely one of my favorite anime of 2017. its word is colorful and creative, its characters are charming and memorable, and while it can be somewhat predictable at times and unsubtle with its foreshadowing, it still has a great heart
it makes me feel like I'm a little kid again and I think its an anime you can pretty much show anyone. AND technically, its also an original magical girl show that is not a madoka clone or a part of a franchise and that is so refreshing.
one of my favorite characters is Lotte. I find her very relatable and a very sweet girl in general.

lmao i hate madoka clones, i just hate how edgy anime has gotten period. i mean, i know some of the goriest stuff came out in the 80s, but when did it start becoming so serious? i think very few animes can pull off a truly serious tone.

Amen to that. And I feel that madoka clones are just disrespecting of the magical girl genre in general. They're not deep they're complex torture porns and they demonize some of the core aspects of the magical girl genre like how a little girls wish is something destructive or it could lead them to great pain (and I heard Yuuki Yuna is a hero is pretty albeist as the physical disabilities the characters get because of their wish are treated in a purely negative way).
That's why I love Princess Tutu and Utena. They manage to execute darker themes but still keep the core aspects that give magical girl shows their power because even despite the tragic truths and sacrifices, duck and utena still try holding onto hope and make things better. I know I'm sounding kind of cheesy now but I don't think those things like a girl's desire for good should be demonized (unless you manage to put a spin on it like the nier series did where the protagonist's initially good desire turns him hateful and one track minded and I'm sorry I kinda got off topic haha)

Yeah, anime's gotten so edgy that innocent magical girl shows are a rarity. It's fine to deconstruct a genre, but all the clones make it kind of stale.
I wonder if Evangelion is to blame, lol.

well maybe but I still think that it should've happened. its not a perfect show BUT it was one of the first original anime series that weren't an adaptation or were made to sell toys. It asked its audience to interpret what it had to say and it tried to delve down to the complex psyche of its protagonists.
so yea, there are a lot of hacks that took the surface elements of the show and made garbage and despite my problems with the show I still think it pushed the envelope in animation along ghost in the shell (which I recently rewatched and loved to pieces), and the like.
