Description I wanted to draw Kagome a bit different than canon. She's usually always so perfectly clean at the start of every episode without any wear and tear, so I wanted to make a more grittier looking Kagome that seems more like she belongs in feudal japan fighting demons and shit.

Also those dress shoes she always wore confused the hell out of me. You're stomping through mud, forests and running through uncharted primitive land, why are you wearing slip on dress shoes??? WHY? So I gave her some more appropriate hiking boots.

Also, she's wearing shorts under that skirt, there's no way she's walking around with just thin-ass lace panties with no protection. Do you want a demon centipede crawling up your butthole?

Yeah, I thought she should look well traveled at least.Β  I personally felt she would have been dressed as a miko the whole time and spared her uniform.Β  The miko outfit was made for that era and everything that went with it.

Well she gets it at the end, when she decides to stay in the feudal era. The uniform was probably a symbolize of her identity as Kagome, if she started wearing the miko clothes right off the bat, she'd be too much like Kikyo and I think that it would make it harder for Inuyasha to see her as herself, you know?

I, for one, can never get enough of badass Kagome.

I always figured Kagome's less than appropriate choice of clothing was more due to genre conventions than anything else. Just about every "Japanese schoolkid gets lost in the past/a parallel universe/a storybook/the school basement" story seems to feature a protagonist who wears almost nothing but his/her school uniform (with Twelve Kingdoms being a rare exception after the first few episodes). Maybe the creators think it'll make the character(s) easier to relate to? Idek.
