Description The Scandinavian/Norse World Tree, which was believed to support the entire universe. Asgard, the home of the Gods, is shown among the branches. The rainbow Bifrost Bridge connects Asgard to the mortal realm of Midgard, which is encircled by Jormungand, the immense Midgard Serpent. The dragon Nidhogg can be seen gnawing the Tree's roots beneath Helheim, the abode of the inglorious dead. Watercolor.

This is beautiful and represents the 3 main world in Norse Mythology! I love how you included the dragon and The Midgard Serpent in there as well!

Very lovely, I like the feeling of intricate Celtic artwork in the serpent and the roots. I also love the fact Bifrost actually ends in Scandinavia

I'm considering getting this as a backscape tattoo. It's between this design and a simple celtic design of the tree of life. suggestions?

Would you mind if I used this for a tattoo? If it's ok, is there a way of getting a higher resolution image or large print of it? I love Norse mythology and I love learning more and more about Odin, Yggdrasil, the children of Loki, the connection between Asgard, Midgard, and Helheim, Valkyries, Aesir and Vanir, Futharkian runes, etc.

I'm honored you'd like to use my image for a tattoo! I try not to post images at too high a resolution to avoid copying, but I do make up prints for people who ask to buy them. Please message me if you're interested, and thank you for the wonderful compliment!

So sorry it's taken me almost two years to actually get back to and read your message! I would definitely love a big huge resolution image and a big poster of this if possible for my wall... and basically anything else you can make with this image hahah: keychains, stickers, you name it. I'm definitely gonna get this tattooed on my back one day after I finish working up this Final Fantasy sleeve I wanna get. I'll copy this message into an email or something for you. Hit me back!

This is beautiful. For a variety of reasons I have become very attached to the World Tree mythologies, and you did a wonderful job in depicting its Scandinavian presentation - I love how you've portrayed the tree's connection to the world of the divine and spiritual, our everyday world, and the underworld. So beautiful.

I'm from Denmark, and I believe this is one of the best Yggdrasil drawings, that I've seen so far

redheaded-step-child In reply to armoragnstwondr [2008-10-26 23:30:30 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! It's pretty unavoidable to lose detail in scans unfortunately. There aren't any spirits or anything in the roots, does it look like there is in the scan? I'm curious.

OOh, very nice. I love the texture you got in the background. I always admire how sharp people can make their paintings come out (like on the roots). My hand's kinda shaky so I never can get good edges (eg if I tried to do this it would come out so much messier looking).

It's a really god piece. I should have said more in my original comment really.
Almost all of the essential elements are depicted in there from Bifrost right down to the dragon at the roots.
