(Almost) final piece for AP. Here's the explanation I'm going to give:
Puppeteering is a form of art, which is a show of life. I have always been fascinated specifically with shadow puppets, and I wanted to express the strong force of life in a way that highlights another form of art with an incredibly strong force of life - animation. The sheet over the canvas represents cel animation, (~40s-90s) my favorite form of animation. Its natural and requires extra work so it comes out human, with a true life in it. I wanted to celebrate it.
For the characters on the cel, I mixed the hands of the puppeteers with the true form of the animals they embody. The rabbit is self explanatory. The way I found best to express hands as deer antlers was to make the head a skull. I almost changed it because in typical illustrative depictions, skulls represent death, and I wanted to represent life. However, I allowed the skull to remain, because in the end, death is equally a part of life.
