This is my latest digital painting using AP, Paintstorm Studio & Painter, “Northern Lights” using a Bob Ross painting as a reference.

Styles used: Traditional, Impasto, Acrylics and Pen & Ink

Software used: Affinity Photo, Paintstorm Studio and Painter to get the desired affects I wanted.

 

    1.       Laid out sketch in AP, exported to Photoshop PSD file, use PSD file so as to transfer between programs (AP, Paintstorm & Painter) to achieve the affects desired.

    2.       Started with GrutBrushes Art Surface Paper Rentender in AP, blend = Multiply

    3.       New layer filled with black for a solid background, blend = Normal

    4.       Placed Sketch layer at top, blend = Multiply

    5.       Placed 2nd GrutBrushes Art Surface Rentender Paper above Sketch Layer, blend Multiply

    6.       Made Group and placed between solid black layer and sketch layer, named group “Art Layers”, this group will hold the majority of the painted layers.

    7.       Blocked in the Mountains and all ground around lake with light brown for a base.

    8.       Painted snow cover in Painter and enhanced it in AP, blend = Vivid Light

    9.       Painted background trees in Paintstorm and enhanced in AP, blend = Average

    10.   Painted foreground trees in AP, enhanced in AP blend = Liner Light

    11.   Painted in lake with reflection except northern lights using Paintstorm, enhanced in AP blend = Reflect

    12.   New layer for Copyright and Signature, blend = Multiply

    13.   Painted Cabin & Cabin snow using Painter Thick Paint, enhanced in AP blend = Normal

    14.   Painted Northern Lights using AP.

    a.       Designed and created a New Intensity Brush for the northern lights.

Set new brush to Opacity 35% Flow 35% Hardness 21%, Spacing 3%, Rotation Jitter 0% + Direction, Hue Jitter = 7%, Saturation Jitter = 7%, Luminosity Jitter = 14%   and blend to Glow

    b.       Made 2 long strokes with blue.

    c.       Made 2 long strokes with Violet

    d.       Made 2 long strokes with yellow

    e.       Made 2 long strokes with Bluish Green

    15.   Duplicated new brush, then set up as a blender, Opacity 35% Flow 0% Hardness 3%, Spacing 3%, Rotation Jitter 0% + Rotation, Associated Tool = Smudge Brush Tool and blend to Normal

    16.   Blended northern Lights colors together as you see them over the mountains.

    17.   Duplicated the northern lights and flipped the new layer horizontally, moved lights down for reflection in lake. Blend = Reflect Opacity 70%

    18.   Resized painting to 10800 x 7200 300 dpi

    19.   Exported to JPG that you see.
