Personally, yes, i think its much better. But only because of how everything is set up, and with Photoshop, if you know what you are doing, then there are alot more options available in your digital manipulating. However, I used to have GIMP before i had photoshop, and I'm still attached to my GIMP program. Its come a long way in the last couple of years, and I only expect it to get better. With GIMP, you can do A LOT of things that photoshop can do, you just have to be a bit more creative in how you do it. Because the layout is obviously not the same, and even the same tools have different functions between the programs.
But yes, my personal opinion is with Photoshop, its extremely expensive, but you get what you pay for. GIMP is the best and cheap alternative if you can't afford Photoshop. I know tons of people who use Photoshop actively and they still get on GIMP to make new fonts, or do text design and stuff or various other things. Because GIMP is easy to understand, and it was perfect for me when i was just starting to do photo manipulation. XD

you mean the place where you have the layer selected, and then you click a drop down menu, and if gives you options like screen, colour dodge, colour burn, soft light, hard light, and things like that?
Each one has a different thing. Like, soft light, kind of makes the bright things brighter in a picture, and dark things darker in the picture. And hard light is like a more extreme of soft light. Screen makes things ridiculously bright. Burn kinda like the opposite. I'm not a professional though, so I don't know exactly how the formula works for each function, but the best way to figure out what each thing does is apply the different affects and mess around with the layers opacity and stuff like that. Or you should google it and see what google says about it. But i personally think the best way to learn is to play around with it.

I usually don't use hue in that way. If you want to mess with a layers hue, try going to the menu bar at the top of the screen. (from left to right, it say things like file, edit, image, layer, and things like that). Depending of if your using photoshop or gimp, it'll be in the layer menu or the image menu, and from those menu's, there is a thing called adjustments i think. Its been a long time since i've used gimp... so, I'd have to re download gimp to see whats up with that. (My computer crashed recently, and I lost everything.) In photoshop, Its in the image tab...
But there is a thing called hue and saturation. Try toggling with that if you want to mess with hue.

it'll just take lots of practice. I'm not that entirely good, and I've practiced quite a bit. lol. I'm also not a natural at this. If i want to be good, I have to try really hard. Alot of people just have a nack for it, and can do it after a couple of tries (which i'm totally jealous of!)
