Concept Art! Yay!

This was part of my Concept Art class. We were tasked to make sketches for a thing we want to make based off of Neil Gaimans stories (Neil Gaiman is a writer who is well known for writing the original book for Coraline). I chose a stealth platformer based off of his short story Only The End Of The World Again, which is basically the Cthulu story Shadow over Innsmouth but with werewolves.

The game takes place in said shortstory as you control the protagonist Laurence Talbot as he is chased by the Cult of Dagon for unknown reasons. Talbot may be the instigator for the apocalypse defined by prophecy or something, but the details elude me (^:

The main game mechanic is that enemies have lanterns that act as their vision cones and they can illuminate hazards and enemies so you can navigate around them. Talbot can also change into a werewolf in key parts of the game and you can now stealth kill enemies. The red and green icons in the bottom left are your health and stamina for sprinting. The lower each are, the faster they pulse.

The game is mainly based off of Deadlight, a 2012 sidescroller set in a gritty 90's zombie apocalypse. Specifically, it's aesthetically based off of it with characters and intractable environments being silhouettes. I wanted the game to look like a madman painted the world the game takes place, which explains why the background looks very Van Gogh. I had a lot of fun painting this and the other things i painted based off of this game Who knows, I might actually make this into a game at some point
