Description
Toa Avalia
Element: Light
Alignment: True Good
Personality and Traits: Toa Avalia is a kind hearted yet strictly disciplined Toa, she is well known for planning out every important action that must be taken, and rarely acts instinctively. Her greatest joy is to educate and train Matoran in the ways of their culture, and tell them tales of Mata-Nui from ages passed. Though she is well respected and spends the majority of her time as the center of attention at the temple in which she resides, Avalia tends to be socially awkward and often relies on Yahnuri to do most of the talking when introduced to new people. Avalia always dreamed of becoming leader of the Toa Xyga, but was never given the opportunity, as she and Yahnuri left the team long before their final mission. Toa Avalia harbors great fear of certain things, namely those associated with shadow.
Fighting Style and Powers: As a Toa of Light her powers range from being able to blind and disorient opponents, to smiting them with powerful beams. She is best at "blessing" her spear with light, causing it to pulse with heat and energy, making it able to cut through most armor. Her ability to weave light energy to her will for use in combat is elegant, with one attack flowing into another with grace, this however tends to make her moves predictable. She has yet to master the ability to wield the element of light without the sun in the sky.
Equipment: Avalia wields a long spear made from protosteel, meant for channeling her elemental energy and piercing the armor of her enemies. She also uses a small golden buckler, which is used to deflect elemental attacks, as well as deflect melee attacks, which throws the enemy off balance and leaves them open for a counter-attack.
She wears a traditional style Kanohi Hau. Avalia has worn this mask for years, and her practice has with it allows her to use it in far more ways than someone unfamiliar with the mask's potential. She is able to imbue the shields created by the mask with light, causing the target to be enveloped with a comforting light aura which repels harm rather than simply taking the damage. Upon the shields breaking, they explode with a burst of light, healing disorienting opponents and severely damaging those with malicious intent should they venture too close. Despite her Hau being a standard great mask, Avalia is not only able to use its power on multiple targets at once, but can also cast a shield at any location within her immediate line of sight.
Brief History: Toa Avalia became a Toa long ago, along with the other members of the Toa Xyga. She and her team oversaw the move from the southwest corner of Xygas-Nui, to the northeastern corner, where the residents of the continent developed a more industrial and technological culture, leaving their ancient and traditional dwellings untouched. She also fought in the war against Valthis-Nui, and personally took part in the search and rescue attempts in the Glass Desert. During this time she became very close with Toa Yahnuri. As the war began to die down, the two Toa fell in love during their time together. This was kept secret for some time until it was revealed by Toa Khiron, another member of their squad, out of jealousy. Avalia and Yahnuri were more or less shunned, most of their teammates giving them the cold shoulder. Eventually, she and Yahnuri decided to leave and return to the southwest in peace, to live amongst the Matoran who elected to stay behind. Toa Avalia oversees a grand temple of Mata-Nui as high priestess, as well as a librarian of sorts, writing and organizing catalogues of history. During the events of Days of Dawn, Avalia accompanies Rashzakea rather begrudgingly, after she is convinced by Toa Yahnuri that there is once again a great threat to the people of Xygas-Nui.
