WARNING: This post is related to a genre called alternate history, and if anyone, both Filipinos and Malaysians, here in DeviantArt will comment anything politically-charged, I'll not hesitant to block you. Understand?In my timeline "Filipinas: La Gloriosa y MΓ‘s AllΓ‘" (as well as in scenarios like Milarqui's "The Legacy of the Glorious"), the territory of North Borneo/Sabah became part of the Philippines when the Hong Kong-based North Borneo Trading Company, which was owned by Americans, gave the rights to the Kingdom of Spain in the mid-1870s. Originally an autonomous province, the Kadazan-dominated North Borneo (Sabah) was currently in process in becoming a regular province within the federal structure of the Dominion of the Philippine Islands (the official name of the Philippines in my AH scenario).
For the flag itself, it was obviously inspired by the British Red Ensign despite that the company that previously owned the territory were Americans: on the canton, the badge of the company (OTL badge of British North Borneo ) gave the impression that the flag of North Borneo/Sabah was a British-inspired design; in addition, the coat of arms of the company was adopted as well.
