'Cornered in your own temple and assailed by the agents of darkness, but yet to be defeated.'

This piece of art was created for the Dungeons & Dragons supplement 'the Book of Vile Darkness'. It is unusual to be asked to show a Golden Dragon in such a parlous situation, and I relished showing the details of the fight.

I tilted the horizon line to add tension, which along with the curve of the Dragon's back and wing leads the viewers eye to the action on the right.

The artwork also needed to fit into a strict format to fit across two pages, and you can find out more about that on my blog:

It hurts seeing such an awe inspiring painting of a wonderful creature in pain.

It blows me away to see the gold dragon in such a ferocious light. They are meant to be the utmost of good, so to me it speaks volumes on the evil characters who are in combat with him here.

Looks amazing! My only "wtf?!" with the image is the amounts of fire being used since gold dragons are immune to it. But I guess they're using whatever to bypass it, rule of awesome says it needs to be fire anyway.

I didn't know that - it was in the bried from WotC, so I guess they know what they're talking about

Well, at the very least they know what they want, especially out of art, and it is still an amazing piece of work, I hope it was printed in a good size in the book in the end. (Besides, it's only geeks like me who's been playing D&D for to long who goes "Gold dragon? Fire?! No!" as their first reaction... XD )

This is incredible! The detail is amazing :0 And it only took you ten days? It would probably take me months to do something like this and it wouldn't even be as good...
How do you get the acrylic to blend so well? Mine usually dries too quickly before I can add any detail D:
