Description While searching for some prehistoric giant ducks (as all people do), I came across an article by twilightbeasts (twilightbeasts.wordpress.com/ ) highlighting a duck I had no idea existed until now. While sadly, the article didn't provide any more information on Branta rhuax as I was searching for, the plus was I learned of the existence of Shiriyanetta hasegawai, a seaduck that lived in Japan during the Pleistocene while the archipelago was fused to one island, connected by glaciers to mainland Asia. Shiriyanetta, somewhat similar to its somewhat more famous relatives Chendytes from California, was a flightless diving seaduck, weighing around 14-15lb, making it relatively large compared to other ducks. The main reason I drew this reconstruction is, as far as I know, from my Google and deviantART search results, as well as according to twilightbeasts, is that this would be potentially the first ever reconstruction of this genus.

Anatomy based on Chendytes and other seaducks, and coloration was made somewhat vibrant on purpose to compare to other seaducks, while still providing its own unique pattern.

I never have read before this duck, and is from the Pleistocene! Nice work and research.

Glad I got to introduce you to this genus rather than the other way around for once.

I like the gaudiness. Come to think of it, coming up with display features of fossil fowl would be a fun challenge!

Thanks! And it definitely would be! I mean look at the variability between just the seaducks, not to mention any other anatids.
