Istafias, one of my character who's a smaller part of my Techion Sci-Fi (I one day dream of visualizing).I suddenly had this idea of making something like a portrait of him, after realizing someone found him to be interesting enough to consider making fan art of him!

So this is a rather quickly rendered piece.
Tried to create something more realistic, however due to the low res the surface of the skin became slightly too rough...
So, any opinions?

Ha ha, that is quite a surprise, never imagined I'd see him like that.
But while winning a kiriban, why not request one of your own characters?

Heh, good question. I hadn't actually developed Alena back when I won and got the request, nor was I really satisfied with any of my current character designs - and decided to pay it forward and depict a friend's OC. I recall you had a few and after going through them, it seemed Istafias had the most references and was also a bit more expressive.
Speaking of which, one day I'll get a good depiction of Aria since I've been practicing people. Drawing monsters/mechs and all that for the past 10 years really slowed down my development in that area.

I too have felt a certain decay in my own anatomy skills, but now, I feel out of practice when it comes to art overall. I really haven't been painting/drawing much the past 9 months.
I hope we both will be improving our skills in the coming months/years!

Of course. I think that I'll be devoting a couple years to studies and practice before making a serious commitment to launching any major projects beyond the conceptual stage - actual execution. Quite a commitment, but I feel that it'll ensure I'll have something that I'm satisfied with. Of course every once and then I can churn out something just for fun.
Don't worry about owing me anything. You don't.

The practice and experience we will gain over the next 3-5 years will be crucial to our success within the areas we hope to make a living of devote or passion to.
I'd say we should be as ambitious as we can, but still within a realistic frame.

I still find a greater interest for your more abstract demonic characters, they are by themselves inspiring enough to make me want to do a piece of them right away. But lately the time to do that has been.. absent.

There is one that I've been meaning to do. Oddly enough, most designs for "dragon" type creatures really don't faze me at all. But I am interested in the "Great Red Dragon" as depicted in William Blake's paintings. There's something about it that just seems more grotesque and striking than the average winged lizard and dinosaur that's hacked it so far. I might just end up adopting a similar interpretation as Blake's, though I'll try to make mine a little more diversified, if possible.
In the meantime, I'll be trying to straighten lore out so I get something I'm content with. So many distractions though, but I think I'll be playing GW2 casually when it is out and save myself time for drawing (and school/job apps of course).
