Jim awoke, and glanced over at his wife, just a lump of blankets in their bed. He smiled to himself, and shuffled out the door and to the kitchen to make himself coffee. After he found himself relaxed with a cup of Joe in one hand, and the daily newspaper in the other, he heard scuffling upstairs. Looking up, he just shook it off as just his wife awaking. But as he listened, he found it to be unlike his wife steps. 'More like an animal's…' He thought to himself.
There was a pause in the steps, then loud steps on the stairs. He peered out of the kitchen, watching for Karol.
There she was, but she wasn't herself. She had rotted skin, and a foul odor. Her hair had fallen out in chunks, and her once beautiful pale blue eyes had faded to a dark disgusting combination of brown and grey.
He recoiled, and then collected himself. So what if his wife had changed on the outside, she was bound to be the same on the inside. Jim eased himself closer to her, whispering, "K-Karol, Hun… Are you alright…?" She groaned, as if she were in pain. Gasping, Jim made his way towards his beloved Karol, studying her blank face. She groaned again, and he winced.
"Karol…?" Jim reached for her hand, and she attacked. He was barely able to duck before she almost pinned him to the wall. "Karol, it's me! Don't attack me!" She swung around, charging again. This isn't working… He pleaded with his eyes, but was unable to reach anything in her. Reaching down, he picked up her purple umbrella, wielding it as though it were a sword. "Please, Karol…" She grunted, and then jumped on him.
He rammed the umbrella through his wife's gut.
She coughed, whispering, "J-Jim…" He jerked the weapon out, holding his wife before she fell, cradling her.
"Karol, no!" Tears had welled up in his eyes. She strained her neck up, and snapped. He dropped her, and let her bleed to death. He cried freely now, he knew he wouldn't see his lovely wife ever again.
He took his weapon of choice, his wife's umbrella, and left his house.
