Lilly and Sarah are definitely two of my favorites! I feel like these two would have a decent relationship had they ever met. They could probably relate to each other somehow, with both of them having lost their fathers in brutal ways.Β

I think they would've been a good pair in the sense that Lilly would have done a good job at trying to keep Sarah calm in her panic or anxiety attacks.

...Mm-hmm. Let's take a closer look at this, shall we?
Lee approaches Lilly and tells her that Doug is suffering with depression, and is worried that he could possibly become suicidal eventually, if left unchecked. Lilly's reaction?
"I'm not a therapist."
Yet another socially awkward teenager (of a similar age to Sarah in season 2, no less) begins hysterically pleading for mercy in front of her. Lilly's reaction?
"You're pathetic. Look at you!"
I said it earlier on in this very comment section, and I stand by what I said above - Lilly would have been an absolutely AWFUL guardian for Sarah, and pairing the two of them together would have been nothing but torment, misery and frustration for them both, since it would have only served to exacerbate both Lilly's and Sarah's various shortcomings. The fact that barely anyone seems to understand Lilly's character enough to realise this much makes me feel incredibly sad, because it means that there aren't anywhere near as many true Lilly fans out there as I had hoped. I'm pretty sure that many of the self-proclaimed Lilly fans who are commenting on pieces like this would have turned on Lilly in a heartbeat if they were to see how she would REALLY interact with a child who has Sarah's difficulties, and that is quite depressing for me to think about, because I feel that Lilly is still a character who is deserving of love and appreciation, despite her sizable personality flaws.
You wanna pair Lilly up with someone like Clementine? Someone who is in a perfect position to both withstand and then learn from Lilly's particular breed of tough love? Well, yeah, that's fine. As a matter of fact, I happen to think that Lilly would be a pretty wonderful mother figure for a confident, competent child like Clementine. But someone like Sarah...? No way. Asking Lilly to take care of someone with Sarah's problems would have simply been a disaster waiting to happen, since Lilly neither has the necessary patience, nor the needed subtlety/know-how to do a passable job in raising and caring for her. It would only have been a matter of time before Lilly's no-nonsense attitude had sparked a full-blown breakdown in Sarah, which would then likely have resulted in Sarah's eventual death, and given Lilly yet one more tragedy and hefty dose of guilt/failure to try and contend with.
And speaking as a massive Lilly fan? ...Nah. I'd rather that Lilly (or, indeed, Sarah) didn't have to suffer through all of that, thanks. :/
