So I finally got around to scanning the entire contents of my "stupid fun stuff for relaxing" sketchbook for the past six months or so. It wound up being about 23 pages, so I split it into two sketchdumps.Part Two: [link]
Most of this is pretty self-explanatory fanart, but a few elements require clarification, so, in approximate order of appearance of specific weirdness:
-a sketch of me as Claude Frollo (Disney's The Hunchback Of Notre Dame) from "Hellfire" with, instead of Esmeralda in the flames, the DVD sets of My Life As A Teenage Robot (which is mostly ~Pinkys1985 's fault)
-some brief fanart of ~Pinkys1985 's characters Stilts and Sunny , as well as ~hot-choc 's Emet (from "Warrior U" )
-scattered developmental work for my short comic "The Rough Patch" , guest-starring Cartoon Network
-absently sketching Rolf while procrastinating on my finals, only to have the sketch scold me and make me feel so guilty that I went back to work?
-a brief sketch of Phyllis Pepper and her pals from my old fanfic "A Very Muppets Mystery" .

SO sometimes I'm going through these sketchdumps and I'm thinking "Well OK this is cool, nothing I really have to comment on for once so I don't have to pester Rachel with obnoxious pointless comments", and then you go and throw Totoro fanart in the middle. 
Also I may or may not have had pretty much that precise awkward conversation you captured there, several times in my life. (Spoiler alert: I have, and often.)

I remember the journal from a while ago -- "I don't feel obliged to draw fanart anymore". And then you upload this. XD
I can understand that it's relaxing, though. And, as always, they're consistently nice, bite-sized and fun.

There's a difference between this and what I was talking about in that journal entry...all of these are fun silly stuff I do to relax, things I draw because I feel like drawing them at the time. However, until relatively recently, I felt this weird obligation that if I liked a series/character/whatever, then I absolutely had to draw it (even if I didn't really want to, or feel like it), because if I didn't draw it, it would mean that "I wasn't really as big a fan of it" or "Nobody would KNOW that I'm a fan of it" or something stupid like that. So I would get stressed out about really stupid things like "Oh my god, I've been watching and enjoying X show for X number of weeks but I've never drawn fanart of it, I'm such a terrible person!"
So the point of the journal wasn't that I was giving up on drawing fanart, I was just giving up on feeling desperately obliged to draw fanart of everything I've ever liked ever, and just focus on drawing whatever I felt like at the moment be it fanart or otherwise.
