Description Tremorworks project: Rahu

Rahu is a Hindu demon who causes solar or lunar eclipses by eating said celestial body. He is sometimes depicted riding in a chariot pulled by eight black horses; his physical form is that of a huge, disembodied dragon's head. I chose to focus in on the dragon itself for this picture. At Phoenixsamurai's request, I gave Rahu the look of an oriental dragon, though I added a bit of Persian to the mix as well.

Thanks very much. I was pretty happy with the way this guy turns out, but I still much prefer to draw my dragons in full color.

Beautiful work! Is this based on a chinese style dragon?

It's a bit of Chinese dragon and a bit of Persian dragon, and a bit of "Rachael Likes Sharp Teeth" dragon.

Rahu is just a HEAD? Now I've seen everything..No wait, there could be something even more weird coming up.
Oh well, even if he is just a head, you drew it marvelously. For some reason I really like all those teeth you drew. I think they look kinda cool.

LOL! I like drawing sharp teeth, and what better an opportunity could be provided than a giant, disembodied dragon's head?

Hindu mythology is very odd. But then again, most mythology and folklore is very odd. I don't know if this guy is the weirdest of the bunch or not, but I'm certainly glad you like him!

Based on what little information I have on Rahu, yeah, the black horses just pull a chariot full of disembodied dragon head around. Very weird.

I certainly can't take credit - Rahu and everything else in the Tremorworks collection is from traditional mythology from around the world.
