Atronachs, Atlantis, and Daniel Jackson. There is no more superior combination than that.

I should really read the artists comments when first viewing the deviation, so that I don't miss out on commenting before the artists deadline... but I usually wait till later to comment and then read it properly .-.
The tones are quite nice and it's an interesting composition...but my eyes don't wander anywhere in particular; there's no real focal point. You could take advantage of all those lines, the edges of the metal segments, to lead the viewers eye towards..say.. the beasts hand that looks like it's about to shoot something, or it's eye. I always find it diffcult to do, it's what I'm trying to learn at the moment now too xD It's too much to change for this peice, but to bare in mind for next time I guess? I think more contrast would work well too to bring out depth; you have a lot of space in this; the hand, head and other hand.. but they merge a lot because of the short range of colours.
The brush strokes are the best bits I tihnk. In particular, those squiggles in the mouth. The subtle highlights on the tendon like things on the hands are also quite pleasing to look at.. but again I think you need more of a range? Everything has a fairly soft edge.. I think some things could benefit from being a bit sharper

This is amazingly beautiful. I am seriously impressed! (Not that I'm not usually impressed with your art, but this one in particular is great!) The combination of your skilled perspective use, the complimenting color choices, and the actual painting skill combined to make an extremely epic piece of work!
It's hard to find something to critique on this. Already so amazing! I can almost see this benefiting from some more negative space, but I dunno.
I think you should continue with the epic painting details and make the grooves of this creature deeper, his armor shinier or more textured ect. Also, the background seems less pop-out-at you-awesome compared to the subject of the image. I know you probably don't want the background taking up too much attention, but maybe add a bit more distance into the scenery. (Might add to the epicness and emphasis on well-warped perspective.)
Again, I really like this. I wish you luck getting into SCAD. And paying for it. You have truck loads of potential. What degree are you aiming for?

Wow, it's so rare to hear someone praising Disney's "Atlantis." I think it gets a bad rap undeservedly.

I love that movie! How does it have bad rep at all?

You can see the comment I left for Pythos above, but generally I think it was unfairly panned for not having a clearly defined target audience (think Thief & the Cobbler, Iron Giant, Titan A.E., etc.). Reviewers are (for some reason that is unclear to me) especially attuned to this feature of movies in their reviews.

Really? I haven't exactly looked at it critically, but I'm not sure I want to. Atlantis has a special place in my heart.
What do people say about it?

Eh. I'm with you - it's a fun movie that's brilliantly animated. Any time I mention it to friends, they seem to feel quite indifferent about the movie; hardly even remembering watching it. I could play parrot w/ what's on Wikipedia et al., but if you like it I would encourage you to keep doing so.

It certainly wasn't as well-known as other movies, for sure. I never hear much about it at all, but I've never actually heard anything bad.
It was my first introduction to the idea of steampunk, though, and had a pretty big influence on my artistic style when I was young (well, as much as it could with the state of my skills back then). I even had little plastic figures of the submarine and the lobster thing.

It would have been one of my first introductions to steampunk I suppose. I really liked the demo-man character and the alphabet they created.

After all that inspiration combined into one, you finally created an epic armor/robot for the Krogans in Mass Effect. The Reapers can come along anytime now
