thank youuuu. I was a little hesitant to post it, because I figured none of my watchers really liked that kind of stuff. It's gotten a bit of attention, nothing like y normal work...but I like it better.

Well, people don't have to comment on it if they don't like it do they? and this has two pages!

This is cool. I think it'd be fun to manipulate digitally and either edit another photo in or draw something to look like a photo. The cracked edges are just too tempting... Perhaps if I had any digital skills.

This wouldn't happen to be named after the Joni Mitchell song, by any chance?

yeah, I dunno what to think about it. It was like that even before the microwave. It was overexposed I think, because I had kind of broken the pack of film in was in. That could be it?

I'm not very experienced with film in general, honestly, but I'm working on it. Maybe someone with expertise in Polaroids could explain the phenomenon?

maybe. i know a couple of people that use polaroids if you want a link to them?

I know a few people too, I've just always felt they didn't have time to answer "stupid" questions like mine. I know, I know. 'No such thing as a stupid question'. Except...that's not true at all. I've been doing some practice teaching/tutoring for my education degree, and sometimes, kids ask the dumbest, most offensive questions. One time I had a kid ask me what pregnancy was when we were reading a book. I wasn't put off by this because I assumed he was just asking what the word meant. I explained, without going into too much detail, that it's when a woman is growing a baby inside her. He then asked me if I was pregnant. I'm not even fat! This kid was like 9, too.

I really dig the soft tones. Microwaving polaroids are pretty fun, unless they're microwaved for more than 2 seconds, then they're pretty lethal.

yeaaaah the whole sparking thing probably isn't for the best. I only left it in there for about 2 seconds, actually.

RobertDwight In reply to purp0l [2009-01-29 02:31:19 +0000 UTC]

I thought maybe you were referencing a Joni Mitchell song, "Raised on Robbery." The first line is, "He was sitting in the lounge of the Empire Hotel, he was drinking for diversion, he was thinking for himself."

I always forget how old I am...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

purp0l In reply to RobertDwight [2009-01-29 02:36:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh my god, I totally was referencing to the song, I just forgot about the lyrics. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of the middle of the song. Now I feel like a moron!

Oh, and when I was little, my favorite song was "twisted" ahahaha. I figured the song had been written about me. I was nuts. "Now I heard little children were supposed to sleep tight, that's why I got into the vodka one night..."

And pfft, Joni Mitchell isn't that old. I guess thats just the kind of music I was raised on, though. My parents never were big radio fans. My mom actually just gave me a bunch of her old records, so I probably know a lot of the same music you do, haha.

RobertDwight In reply to purp0l [2009-01-29 02:42:05 +0000 UTC]

Twisted is a totally fabulous song! It's fun to play (from a musician's standpoint) because it's written over jazz/blues changes. I love playing those changes...

purp0l In reply to RobertDwight [2009-01-29 02:44:03 +0000 UTC]

What do you play? I play piano, so Joni Mitchell was a big influence on me as a kid. He's more modern, but I also really enjoy playing some of Ben Folds' stuff.

RobertDwight In reply to purp0l [2009-01-29 02:50:35 +0000 UTC]

I've played guitar for years (I have eight or nine now, I can't remember). I've played jazz, Gospel, R&B, funk and Brazilian (bossa nova, samba and pagode). I also have a Japanese Shakuhachi flute (which I'm terrible at) and a doumbek/darbuka. My with the doumbek is to play with a small ensemble for belly dancers. Maybe I'll pick up a riqq, too.

So many instruments, so little time...

purp0l In reply to RobertDwight [2009-01-29 12:03:25 +0000 UTC]

Wow! That's insane. Makes my piano and vocal skills be put to shame. I've always waned to learn to play a stringed instrument, but I just figured I'd be horrible at it. I hate reading music, which is why I liked the piano...it was easy to experiment with.

RobertDwight In reply to purp0l [2009-01-29 14:16:15 +0000 UTC]

Meh... I consider myself an apt musician. Not great though, so don't be impressed. Guitar is fun: easy to pick up and sound decent fairly quickly, and you can take it as far as you'd like. And it too, is easy to experiment with.

I've tried to play some guitar...I can play a few of the eagles songs...mostly hotel california, haha. My dad taught me, but I've never had any real lessons. What kind of music do you typically enjoy playing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RobertDwight In reply to purp0l [2009-01-29 16:42:13 +0000 UTC]

I really enjoy jazz, although that's the hardest for me, as I'm not that skilled at improvisation. I didn't have any lessons until after I played for 30+ years. I thought it was time to unlearn some very bad habits. That was one of the best things I did. Both of my teachers are professional jazz musicians.

There are a number of jazz musicians from Indianapolis that are faculty at the summer jazz workshops in Louisville, KY. I attended the workshops maybe seven or eight years ago and was blown away. I learned a lot about what and how much I didn't know.

I took professional piano lessons for a while, and I'm taking a music theory class now in college. It's so different than just teaching yourself.

I love listening to others play jazz. I love how I can be listening intently but never know whats coming up next!

I live close to downtown Indy now, so I see a lot of street musicians and such. Sometimes theyre much better than the "professionals"

I cheated (google is my friend), BUT we did just talk about the simpsons theme song in my theory class. We talked about tons of different theme songs from tv shows... like the theme from "friends". haha. And do you ever watch the show Scrubs? There was an entire episode where they sang their dialogue. It was awesome.

Okay, this'll clue you in to my age, but when I was youngerr, my parents wouldn't allow me or my sister to watch that show. I also wasn't allowed to listen to a lot of music on the radio...my parents aren't even religious or anything! Just overprotective. I watched reruns of shows like Three's Company, Facts of Life, and The Cosby Show...I really thought those were like, real, current shows for the longest time, haha. I was also a BIG fan of the Rugrats! (I know, now I sound like I'm a baby...which I really am. Almost 20 but still enjoy cartoons, haha)

anyway, i think the film was just so old that anything i wouldve taken a picture of wouldve come out like this anyway.
