Now is much more "accomplished". I still have some trouble illustrating flowers and metallic object, I think I should color more background props in the future. I also notice that my pose put her face too close to the corner. However, the bottom line is--- it is done YAY! xDD

I didn't think it would make into finalist anyway =3=" The composition is lacking for me though, I have to spend time more on coloring =3

gah! It's amazing T_T
I don't think I stand a chance at winning anymore
but at least I get to give away awesome prizes to awesome people \(^o^)/ (I would ask to be allowed judging but that would be unfair, I'm part of the contest myself and I never judge something if I also take part in it)

Don't worry! Practice more and you'll get better than me in no time. I am not a regular artist, so you can always surpass me! It is actually easy to get good--- the key is to be persistence!

I don't really have persistence, I wasted it all on programming and 3D art (both of which I've been doing for a bit over seven years (yes, I started at age 11, I was fluent in c++ at age 12 (note: I am only counting when I started learning a serious language as when I started, if we count unix and dos scripting (oh and BASIC) then I started programming much earlier... I was somewhat well rounded in DOS scripting at age 5 so... yeah (I had a bunch (a few hundred) scripts and the reason I bothered reverse engineering them was because I was fascinated with the fact that a few words could hold such power over the computer) )... so yeah, persistence is something I have...)

Yes, I am aware that persistence can't be wasted, I am merely using excuses to not have to draw (I love drawing too which is paradoxical)
Ah well, I might stand a chance because I am working in a completely different media from you (3D), either way let the best man (woman?) win!

Ironically, I am also a computer science major. I started drawing and programming (in C++) back when I was 13. I often switch between 80% programming and 20% art, so I experience a very sluggish improvement in art. Late in college days, I put more time on art and, try to spend spare time on drawing... daily. That's when I actually start to see improvement. My motivation came from reading about a person who started from zero and became pro manga-artist in 2 years. Over that 2 years, he created filled over 20 pages of pixiv with colored illustration (about 100 illustration) and many more for daily diary/blog.

Oh lord, that is a rather interesting coincidence.
I'm not majoring in it (yet) though since I have yet to submit a university application (I am waiting until next semester for that since I haven't taken an SAT (long story, let it suffice to say that the educational systems of Sweden and Canada are rather incompatible))

My effort varies from 0% programming and 100% art to 100% art and 0% programming (to 50/50 and indeed 0/0), it really depends on my mood and my current projects at hand, right now I'm on a 100% art since I've been doing a few commissions and contest entries, as soon as I finish this one I'll go back to working on my game (Which is almost done on that matter, well it's almost ready for an alpha release which is close enough)

My motivation with art is seeing artists better than me and deciding that I can and will outperform them. (I usually don't succeed but that's another question entirely)
I used to be really good at drawing oh... some six years ago when I actually drew daily, then I kind of just stopped.

I expect my programming to spike since I just got a job interview for a software engineering job, if I get the job I'll actually have a full-time income (which is rather surprising since I don't have an education and my portfolio is... well rather empty since I'm rebuilding it, I blame networking and blind luck)

So, what university would you recommend? I have my goals set on MIT (Unusually enough I made my mind up about where and what to study at an age of seven, and my choice was computer science; MIT), any other universities I should at least consider? (I don't expect I'll need it, I've made up my mind that I *am* getting into MIT, I have the will and that's half the battle, amirite?)

Now the reasons for me getting into 3D actually relate to my programming. (can ya guess the reason?)

Well, let me guess--- your lifelong goal is to be a game programmer. Probably the same as me. I started programming, because I want to be game programmer and nothing else. However, my life so far has been around IT software engineering and, you know, business-type programming. As for game, I remain an amateur. Having only created basic games such as platformer in the past, now I am looking forward to create top-down view tile-based game. I justΒ

As for university, it's up to your suit. For me, I am a kind of guy who like to work on my own project, so university didn't suit me very well--- I probably want to try for a job in a small game studio or as a freelance work. Same for art, drawing some manga or novel illustration are my lifelong goal.

I see, well with programming my goal is of course games (why else would I be talking about making games )
I'm at a level where I can create full fledged 3D games (albeit not with AAA shaders because they take time to write and I am but one man)

As for university; then MIT it is~

oh and my end goal with 3D art is to best super awesome people like HazardousArts , or to put it less humbly; I wanna be the best.
