I seriously hate when I draw a background and then suddenly realise it looked better with it off. DX But actually (not having seen this without its background) I must say I really like the effect - it looks rather like mist in the lair which looks great to me.
The sketch is lovely - the shading, the lovely way you've drawn their hair, and the detail is wonderful - the folds of Erik's sleeve and the lace on Chris' gown. Beautiful! ^^,
