Illustration for an upcoming Realms of Fantasy Magazine story entitled "Impractical Cats"I sat down at my desk ready to start brainstorming for this piece. I had pulled out my sketchpad and was staring at the blank page, when from the corner of my eye I saw slender shapes dart out from behind the wall.
My friendly neighborhood strays decided to make a timely appearance and spent the next few minutes stalking the steps in front of my window, climbing up the wall and then leaping back down, and in general being the perfect models for this piece.

How much does the Strathmore IB usually cost? I'm looking into new papers to use since I've been stuck with cardstock and bristol for years. Would you say that Strathmore holds well with masking fluids?

Very well. I just taught a workshop in pasadena last weekend using this paper, and people in the class were calling it "Magic paper" because it just takes layers and lifting so well too. It's usually about $6.00 for a 22x30 inch sheet. I get it on line in packages of 15 sheets for $4.25 per sheet.

I'm just using a flat 1 inch brush, and it's sort of dry as I paint and brush really light layers.

Oh, I should add that I'm using strathmore lightweight illustration board. This kind of blending works really well on this surface. Not so much on regular watercolor paper.

A quite amusing watercolor painting of stray cats playing in the clouds. I love the rain & cats a lot.
It takes me about a a day or a week to finish one of my watercolor paintings. Fantastic job as well!D

Inspiration comes from the most wondrous, and sometimes the most simple, and unexpected places. I love how the cats seem to be playing in the clouds and blending in to become part of the clouds at the same time. The colors are gorgeous and are very tranquil, yet the shapes have an great amount of energy within the soothing curves. Beautiful work!
