Description Dinky Doo yawned as she pushed the covers of her bed off of her. The first rays of sunlight filtered into her room through the window which had awoken her. She still felt a little groggy having just woken up, but something at the back of her mind was urging her to wake up faster. All at once, Dinky Doo's eyes shot open and an elated smile broke across her face. She grew even more excited by the second and leapt from her bed. Well, more like she tried to leap from her bed, but ended up getting herself tangled in the sheets and tumbling to the floor. She didn't care though as she just laughed it off and untangled herself from the bed spread. Of course she was a good little filly and quickly replaced the sheets back on the bed as they should be, careful to fold them properly over the edges.

Done with her routine, Dinky made her way down the hall squeeing to herself. Her home was small, yet bright, but more importantly it truly felt like a house she could always call home. She crept up to the second door on her left, barely making a sound as she nosed the door open. Ditzy Doo, her mother's room laid inside. Dinky giggled as she saw the form of her mother still hiding under the covers. She had noticed her mother had been sleeping in a lot more in the past few weeks, but thought it was due to her mother's job as a mailpony leaving her very tired. Dinky giggled a little more before tip toeing to the edge of her mother's bed.

Dinky got up close and whispered loudly, "Time to get up Mommy! ^ ^ Today's the big day, remember? It's my birthday."

Dinky remained grinning, waiting for a response, but one never came. Thinking that she wasn't loud enough and her mother was still asleep she spoke up a little more.

"Mommy, aren't you gonna wake up? You promised we would make a muffin cake today."

"…"

Something felt wrong, Dinky knew she had spoken up enough, but her mother remained silent; unmoving even. She poked at the bundle under the covers a couple times, calling her mother's name at the same time. Finally, Dinky gave a little more forceful nudge. What she didn't expect was the pegasus pony to roll completely off the bed, landing on the floor with a dead smack. Dinky quickly ran over to the other side of the bed ready to apologize, but found her mother had remained laying on the ground in the spot she had fallen. There was no movement from the grey coated mare after she had fallen, not even the simple rise and fall of her chest. Dinky became concerned, no, scared as she nudged at her mother's side.

"…Mommy…please wake up mommy…you said we were going to spend the whole day together."

Nothing the little filly did seem to rouse the mare, and it soon became apparent how cold her mother's body felt to the touch.

"Mom…," Dinky choked as tears began to well up in her eyes, "…mommy…MOMMY?!"

From the window, a faint outline that blurred in the rising sunlight floated. No one could see it but the outline raised a grey colored hoof to the glass of the window. Ditzy's spirit cried silently as she watched her little filly scream her name through harsh sobs.

"I'm sorry, Dinky…I didn't want you to worry and…and I just felt so tired…I'm so sorry."
