Description "No, you can't make me go!"

Matt yawned as he was awaked by a certain Gligar's yelling.

"I don't care if the rest of this 'family' is going, I am not going!" Skye continued to yell.

Matt took a few moments to wake himself fully. He looked down at his hands and sighed when he saw that yesterday wasn't a dream after all. He was still in the same bed he had fallen asleep in the night before in the hollow, and was still a pokemon. He sighed again as he thought about the stuff that happened the day before.

'What if I never become a human again, or even get my memories back,' Matt thought to himself with a growing sense of concern and fear.

"Skye, you are going with us as a part of this family and that's final," Matt heard Hope yell this time.

Since he was already up, Matt decided to go see what all the commotion was all about. In the kitchen like area, Rick and Hope were guarding the entrance against the fuming Gligar. Tim and Tam were quietly eating at the table occasionally flicking a berry or two into each other's bowls as if it were a game.

"Who said that this is my family anyways," Skye continued his argument, "I'm not going!"

He raised a claw to Rick and Hope and snapped it, trying to intimidate them. They all continued to glare at each other until Hope noticed Matt enter.

"Good morning Ray," She said as sweetly as she could in between scolding Skye, "Did you sleep well?"

"Yes thanks," Matt nodded simply, but actually it was the complete opposite.

All of the night before, the same images kept flaring up in his mind every time he fell asleep. He even kept waking up to some mysterious voice that would call his real name. He shook off his troubled expression as not to worry everyone else and sat down at the table.

"Tch, if we're done here then I'm leaving," Skye proclaimed as he proceeded to push past his two guardians.

Rick held out a paw to stop him, "Not so fast, we're all leaving together."

Skye was instantly enraged, "Who said O was going to that stupid Berry Festival?! I'm just getting out of here!"

Hope whipped her tail around and struck Skye upside the head causing him to flinch and scowl.

"And who said that you were not going?" Hope asked. As calmly as she could.

"I did! I don't need to go and you can't make me!"

The three were at another standstill, glaring at each other for control.

"Alright then, I may have a way to settle this," Rick announced, "Skye, you may choose anyone of us, except Tim and Tam, to fight in a one on one battle. If you win, you don't have to come with us to the Berry Festival. If you lose, you come with us without any more complaints."

Both Skye's and Hope's eyes widened in surprise by the older Lucario's compromise.

"For real?" Skye asked calmly now, "All I have to do is win a fight?"

Rick nodded his head, "Yes."

"Alright, then I choose…" Skye swiveled around to survey the room; he knew he couldn't pick one of the weakling twins and then something suddenly clicked in his mind, "…him."

He snapped a menacing claw toward his pick; Matt. Everyone was now staring with surprise at the Lucario leaning on the table as Matt himself suddenly realized what just happened.

"Wait, what?!" Matt finally spoke.

Hope spoke up as well, "Absolutely not Skye, he-"

"You said anyone besides the twins, and I choose him," Skye interrupted, snapping his claw again.

"I won't allow it!" Hope blurted, "Ray cannot-"

"Um, actually…I wouldn't mind it," Matt sheepishly volunteered, "I mean, I can fight."

The room was finally quiet for the first time that morning, including the twins who had stopped flicking food to pay attention.

"Okay then," Rick broke the silence, "Right after breakfast, Ray and Skye will have their match."

Everyone went about the rest of the early morning either getting something to eat or rechecking the packs for the trip. Matt sat quietly eating a bowl of Oran and Persim berries (a good mix in his opinion) until Hope tugged him away, out of earshot from everyone else.

"Ray dear, are you sure you can fight," Hope asked with much concern.

"Um, to be honest, not really," Matt replied, a little embarrassed that he accepted the challenge without really thinking about it, "But I think it might help me remember who I am, you know, like if I'm some kind of famous fighter. The fight might remind me of something."

Hope wanted to do everything she could to stop the fight, but Rick had already reassured her that it would be okay.

She sighed in defeat and patted Matt on the shoulder, "Okay, good luck then Ray."

As soon as everyone finished their breakfast, and a quick scolding toward Tim and Tam about playing with their food, they all moved outside into the midmorning sun. Being inside since the moment he remembered waking up, the sunlight felt so welcoming to Matt. The warmth was so soothing and the feel of fresh green grass between his toes added to the nostalgia. The surrounding woods behind the hollow tree rustled with the wind and echoed the calls of other pokemon that lived there. Matt took a deep breath of the air and caught the scent of so many new things at once. Matt thought to himself that he never wanted to leave this moment of peace.

"Are you gonna fight, or stand around like a complete idiot?"

Matt was brought back from his own little world to the open space between him and Skye that was the battlefield.

"Hehe, this is gonna be too easy," Skye said to himself and took his stance with a smirk.

'I hope I can do this,' Matt though as he took a stance similar to a boxer.

Rick acted as referee and raised a paw, "Alright, you two both know the conditions of the fight. The only other rule is no fatal attacks. Now, begin!"

As soon as Rick's paw dropped Skye used his tail to spring high into the air. Now in the sky, he glided in circles waiting for the opportunity to attack.

'Ah man, how am I supposed to fight if he's all the way up there,' Matt thought as he tensed.

Skye glared down, losing patience, 'Fine if he doesn't want to make the first move then I will!'

Skye dive-bombed as fast as he could into an Aerial Ace attack, swooping just above Matt's head. Matt had to duck in order to not het hit by the head on collision attempt.

"Haha, you look like such a coward," Skye taunted, launching himself back into the air.

Matt stood back up trying to regain some composure only to duck again as Skye barely clipped his cheek on the second attack. A stinging sensation burned on Matt's cheek as he felt the bruise already forming.

"Tch, at least do something other than dodging wimp," Skye blurted, getting annoyed.

'Dang it, I wish I knew what to do, or even some moves…oh shoot,' Matt thought as he narrowly avoided yet another Aerial Ace that nicked his shoulder.

The pattern kept up of Skye's assault of aerial attacks, with Matt just barely avoiding the onslaught.

"Alright, enough playing around!" Skye called as he rose into the air once more, "Let's see how you handle this!"

Matt squinted until the sun got too much in the way. He blinked a couple times but now the sky was filled with flying Gligars.

"Look out Mr. Ray, he's using Double Team," Tam exclaimed from the sidelines.

A bit of fear welled up in Matt as he scanned the doppelgangers, but it was no use; he couldn't tell which one was the real one. The doppelgangers all put on a smirk as one after the other screamed toward Matt at top speed. Matt's heart pounded as he narrowly evaded each attacker as if they were the real one. A flicker of movement caught the corner of his eye and he turned to protect himself with his arms. The Gligar's smirk grew as it fazed right through Matt to reveal it too was a doppelganger. Another flicker of movement raced out from the side toward Matt. This time, Matt knew it was the real Skye when he slammed into his gut and tossed him across the field like a ragdoll. From the sidelines, everyone gasped as the watched Matt fly through the air and collapse in a heap away from Skye.

The rest of the doppelgangers disappeared as Skye brushed some dirt away from his claws, "Tch, that was too easy."

"Oh no!" "Mr. Ray!" The twins cried to the fallen Lucario.

"Hey, I don't have to go on that stupid trip now right?"

Hope glared daggers at Skye, ready to scold him before a low groan interrupted her.

"No, it's not over yet," Matt coughed with the wind knocked out of him.

Skye appeared unimpressed as he watched Matt stagger to his feet, "Whatever. I'll just knock you out again, and this time I won't be holding back."

Skye lunged into the air once again, faster than he did before. He glided around faster and faster, expelling doppelgangers in a Double Team frenzy. Matt shifted back and forth trying to keep up with the sheer number of clones. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath to calm himself before settling into a new stance. Rick watched with an intense gaze as he recognized the basic fighting stance that he was taught as a Riolu; finally, the real fight would begin.

All the new doppelgangers flew every which way, rendering the real Skye invisible among the crowd, but Matt didn't seem fazed and tighten his stance as if he knew what to do. All at once the Gligar clones rushed in a barrage to their target. Matt's eyes whipped open, a sense of determination emanated from himself. Everything seemed to slow down a bit from Matt's perspective as he zeroed in on each of the Gligars.

The twins gasped as the barrage of Skyes' charged headlong at Matt. The moment intensified as they watched Matt flip over, sidestep, and dodge every doppelganger that came his way. Matt himself went through the fluid motions of his evasion with ease, catching a few doppelgangers with a punch or kick that got too close and dispersing them to nothingness. A new sense began to well up inside Matt, like he could now feel which ones of the clones were fake when they got too close. Skye was becoming even more irritated to see Matt no longer cowering down below.

"You think you can win by just running away?!" Skye raged as he joined the doppelgangers in the illusive barrage.

'There!' Matt thought turning toward a particular Gligar that raced toward him at blinding speed.

No longer dodging the fake Gligars that harmlessly passed through him, Matt concentrated all of his energy into the palms of his hands. His arms, outstretched to either side of his body glowed with light and the swirling energy of Aura Spheres formed. They both started out in a hue of purplish-blue until Matt felt his left arm twitch and the aura in that hand shifted to a shade of light green and white. Skye didn't focus on the color of the Aura Sphere as he continued to plunge downward in a mad rush. Everyone held their breath as Skye redoubled his speed for his attack. Matt was now ready; he threw the first Aura Sphere in his right hand as hard as he could toward the real Skye. Skye only had a moment to react and veered his weight to avoid the incoming attack. Now off course, he used the rest of his momentum to rise back into the air to come back around for another shot. When he did turn, a pale green light glimmered and grew brighter by the second. The second Aura Sphere caught Skye off guard, completely him out of the air and sent him spiraling into the ground. He dropped with a loud crash, unable to battle.

"And I believe that makes Ray the winner," Rick calmly declared with a raised paw.

The twins began to whoop, yell, and chant for Matt's victory.

"Wow that was so cool, he's almost as tough as dad!" "Oh, did you see how amazing he looked when he was dodging those fakes?"

Matt stood panting, feeling exhausted from the battle. He looked down at his paws which still flickered with visible energy before dying down completely.

'Woah, how did I do that? And where did I learn to fight like that?'

His thoughts only raised more questions which was not what he was hoping for. Though now he knew that he could at least fight, but it felt strange. Like his actions were just imitations from someone else that was actually fighting.

"Well, well Ray. Where did you learn to fight like that?" Rick asked cheerfully handing over a couple Sitrus berries to regain his strength.

Matt gratefully accepted the berries, "…I don't know, I just kinda did what came to me."

"I want a rematch!" Skye roared, pulling himself up with what energy he had left.

Hope glared at the Gligar, "Forget it Skye, you already made a promise. Now go get some rest and then we will leave."

Skye growled with seething anger before obeying Hope's command. He gave Matt one last look of hatred as he stormed into the hollow to recover.

I will agree, but that's just him on a good day; Skye can get pretty angsty when he wants to (backstory will help explain why, but that will come later)
