The most mysterious of all the Eevobeasts, the Smump-Jira is very poorly studied Pokémon with only a handful of fragmentary fossils found and a truly remarkable sighting reported of a possible surviving individual, referred to as "The 1974 Smump-Jira Incident". Taking place in 1974 in frigid Antarctic waters, Captain Jonathan Cousteau of the SMS Reverend described the encounter with a Smump-Jira in his journal. The massive eeveelution was said to have leapt out of the ocean and hoisted itself onto the ship to attack the tiny intruders of its territory, before finally being driven off, never to be seen again.

"During my expeditions on the coastlines in the dead of an Antarctic winter, I found myself alerted to these strange trumpeting calls. As I went to the source of the noise, right before my very eyes, I saw from the ship, a massive creature. It reminded me of a massive elephant seal but it also had a fox like tail that was relatively short in length, four flippers with claws, as well as four canines sticking out from the jaws, two in the upper and two in the lower. It was the color of snow and ice but with some darker blue grey markings on the body and long drooping ears. Silvery blue plates were seen from the back. But then, the creature seemed to spot me as well. However, I turned around and when I went to look back again, the animal was gone. However, shortly afterwards, while I was searching, a loud smashing noise was heard! It sounded like ice shattering, and the creature was right upon us!"

"The crew stumbled about, each of them also trying to scare the animal off with shots from their guns, but it didn’t seem to have an effect on it! The beast then grabbed one and threw them against the side of the boat, and the crew fired off some more shots! The enraged animal then bellowed out, its snout also inflating somewhat as it did before it charged at somebody else!
The people kicked at the animal, and the beast, finally growing annoyed, then decided it had enough and as abruptly as it started, it was all over. The beast went over the ship and swam off into the ocean."

The Smump-Jira seems to share a lot of similarities to other colossal Antarctic cryptids, such as Ningen, Kabagon and the Antarctic Godzilla. We may never know how long these great beasts have lived on the very bottom of the Equator and how many there are left...
