Description
A Scythian woman with her pet golden eagle. The Scythian was the first well known and well documented horse-people of the ancient world. From Eastern Europe to Siberia, they practiced nomadic pastoralism and trade, as well as raiding and serving in foreign countries as mercenaries and police. In their society, women wielded power and rights far greater than those enjoyed by sedentary counterparts. There is evidence that many were warriors and hunters- professions associated with men in other cultures. The eagle represents this woman’s role as hunter and her cape, dagger and quiver suggest that she also fights in war.
