AND THE REST.You know I remember when I first heard about Mr. Game & Watch appearing in Melee. It came completely out of nowhere but I thought it was a fantastic idea! He is (sort of) the very first Nintendo game character. Some people didn't like him though.
Some people also don't like ROB. Personally I think he's appropriate because rather than representing a specific game franchise he's more of a spokesman for Nintendo hardware itself. kind of like Mr. Game & Watch. Plus, since he's had cameos in so many games (Kirby, Mario, F-Zero, Wario) he's somewhat of a Nintendo mascot in his own right.

I didn't like R.O.B. in Brawl because he had the most boring moveset.

Compared to who?
The more characters that are added the more gimmicky they tend to be just so that they are easily differentiated.
If Mario hadn't been in the game until now he would probably have had some kind of power-up transformations gimmick or a dependence on FLUDD or Yoshi.
R.O.B. just happened to have a more straightforward moveset but in a later game. I always thought Ike had a boring moveset because there's only so many ways you can swing a sword.

Compared to almost everyone. His fighting style just wasn't exciting. With the exception of his Up Special, his specials weren't really that interesting (looking at you, Gyro). I just found him boring, along with Zero Suit Samus and Sonic, who also had rather plain movesets.
Thankfully. Zero Suit Samus in Smash 4 looks much more fun to play as, and Sonic looks better in his reveal trailer, so maybe they might do something that'll make me like R.O.B. more in Smash 4.

The first I heard about R.O.B was unlocking him in Mario Kart DS. He was a heavy character, so I didn't use him that much until I unlocked the ability to use any kart with any person.

Ah, they just want blokes with swords, they can't appreciate the nuance of a flat man and plug-in robot.
