Description: The Desmostylus is a bizarre species of herbivorous marine mammal from the family Desmostylidae that lived from the Late Oligocene to the Late Miocene Epoch in what is now the Northern Pacific Rim, ranging from the Baja California Peninsula to the Shimane Prefecture in Japan, several species of Desmostylus are known, but most info we do know is from the type species, Desmostylus Hesperus.  This animal was most likely either had a semi-aquatic or fully aquatic lifestyle, almost like today's Hippopotamus, it may have even lived just like Hippos too, isotopic studies have shown that the Desmostylus had lived in or around coastal, freshwater, or estuary ecosystems, most likely feeding on aquatic freshwater plants at less than 30 meters deep.  Fossils of several Desmostylus species show a variation in the teeth, each known species is able to be identified due to the minor differences in tooth morphology, even the species Desmostylus Japonicus was discovered having a well preserved skull with even cranial morphology being different from other Desmostylus species.
Mod: Desmostylus (Acinonyx Jubatus) thezt2roundtable.com/desmostyl…
Personal Thoughts: Before I saw this be made for Zoo Tycoon 2, I didn't even know it existed, I haven't seen any Desmostylus in any of the museums I've been to or in any books and other media.  It is awesome to have a species that I never even knew about in this game, it really fits in a prehistoric zoo as an unusual extinct species most people don't know about.  At first the swimming animations look weird, but when it's in deep water, it moves more like it's actually swimming.  Plus it has no bugs or glitches and the modeling and textures are realistic.
