Description Yes, I've been rewatching Arthur, lately. I started watching it way back when it first came out, and now, post-college, I can still watch and enjoy it. That's the sign of a good kids' programme, in my opinion (plus, nostalgia probably has something to do with it).

In my revisiting, I made something of a discovery in George Lundgren. Formerly a minor background character, the writers really fleshed him out in later seasons; George is a shy, painfully awkward kid with dyslexia. He's artistic, frequently bullied, and often retreats behind a separate character persona (in this case, his ventriloquist's dummy), because he is so lacking in self-confidence that he doesn't think people will like him for who he is. As such, when he does manage to make a friend, he has a real problem with saying 'no', which makes him very easy to take advantage of. Additionally, he is further isolated from his peers by his frequent nosebleeds, which gross everyone out.

. . . That is downright UNCANNY. I mean, George is basically ME back in lower and middle school, right down to the nosebleeds (I had surgery to help with that, later on). I've since become a much more social and confident person, but crikey . . . I really wish I'd been able to watch a character like this when I was growing up.

So yes, I felt George deserved some art. Also, I realise that Wally, his dummy, isn't quite THAT big, but it was supposed to be sort of symbolic of how the puppet character tends to overshadow and upstage him. Just a quick colourjob for this, because it's late and I am smeepy.

Blah. I go to bed, now.

George Lundgren belongs to Marc Brown and Cookie Jar Entertainment. Wally does, too, but they're kind of one in the same, right? At least in the way Jekyll and Hyde are . . .

This is really good. I like the Arthur cartoon. I can relate with George. I was just like him when I was in school. I was very shy, I got pick on, and I didn't have a lot of friends. I like George. He is a very cute moose boy. I am also just like his friend Carl because I have Aspergers syndrome too.

Oh my goodness, you have no idea how happy this makes me! I started watching Arthur again after quite a long time because it was the only thing on when I get home. I was amazed at how much they developed George and other minor characters; I completely agree that it's one of the few quality childrens' shows.

And I totally just watched that nosebleed episode yesterday. C:

The way you've positioned his legs, the timidity of his expression and his posture... everything conveys a general sense of hurt. It really does make my heart ache. Great job on this, I might have to go back and watch some Arthur soon.

I remember watching Arthur, but I must've missed a season, because I don't remember George at all. Okay, I remember one scene with him where Binky tried to bully him into telling where a book was (even though Binky himself had it), but I don't remember anything about him getting bloody noses and being a ventriloquest.

This is good though. And I like how Wally's giving him a kleenex.

My last encounter with Arthur was my sister reading (and being brought into hysterics by) the book based on the episode where Buster meets Mike. It was especially funny late into the night.

Love the colouring on this!

I too enjoy watching Arthur whenever it's on. Growing up watching and reading it, I would of thought it wouldn't hold up, but it does! The writing and sometimes satirical jokes make it fun to watch no matter what age you are.

I love George, but my favourite and most relatable character was and always will be Fern.

OMG this is so creepy. I was like JUST watching this episode on youtube YESTERDAY.

And the symbolic nature of George's dummy really makes sense. For those who cannot see it or do not understand, it is also a nice abstract ballooning which is pleasing in an old fashioned sort of way.

I like this piece and I'm actually amazed to see Arthur artwork popping up in my deviantwatch list. YAY HUGS!

!!! I adore George. He goes through so much in the show. His friendship with Fern is adorable.

It's so awesome to see him in your style though. You capture him perfectly, right down his feet.
