The usual sounds of competition filled the area, supporting the atmosphere. People and horses milled about, most minding their own business.
  "Do you think he will be fine with the bonnet on?" Julie studied Grimmen, recalling where they had been an hour earlier.
  Astrid glanced over at her groom as she pulled her boots on, grimacing. "Let's not worry about that and assume he's forgotten about it already."
  As if in response, Grimmen threw his head up impatiently. They had struggled for over half an hour to get the bonnet onto his head. He had kept refusing to cooperate, convinced the bonnet was the work of the devil. The others might be right that Grimmen is the devil incarnate. Astrid thought with a smile. She had taken his behaviour with humor the first 10 minutes, but then it had gotten old pretty quickly.
  Grimmen nuzzled the front of her jacket when she walked over, looking nothing like the devil people kept claiming he was. She knew better than anyone that he could easily do a 180 and shut her out completely, but she hoped he had gotten the worst of his defiance off with the bonnet-episode.
  "I better get ready. We're up in not too long."
  "I'll try my best to get a look at you in there." Julie smiled as she let Grimmen to the stool and put the reins over his head. Astrid got on the second he was stopped, taking advantage of the few seconds he was distracted.
"I'm glad I'm not representing the team today. I think I would have had a fullblown meltdown if I had."
"But you're only going to have a small breakdown today?"
"Exactly." Astrid grinned at her, forcing herself to ignore the nerves. "And besides, I haven't really gotten a proper feel for the people in the team yet. I wouldn't want to introduce myself by disappointing them."
The time between mounting and them entering the arena felt like it went by in a flash. Grimmen tensed up like a spring as they neared the gate, snorting and stomping. She knew she would have to either hold him back or hold on today. He was ready to explode with energy. The gate opened and they entered. Grimmen bounced forward, impatiently waiting for her command to canter.
  They passed the starting point and she nudged his sides with her heels and he shot forward. As the wind filled her ears and drowned out the sound of the crowd and commentary she could almost hear her dad shouting at her, although he was several hours of travel away. Fast, but precise. FOCUS GIRL! The first obstacle was coming up, looming in front of them. She urged Grimmen forward, not letting herself start to doubt. Grimmen took them over obstacle after obstacle in fast succession, never hesitating or questioning her commands. After years of struggle, no one could tell her that Grimmen didn't have potential. They had proved his worth last year, and they would keep on proving it this year.

How lucky am I to be sorted into a team that features the colors that Grimmen has already been sporting for quite a while? #GultErKult
This was drawn in between working on my BA thesis, so I'm quite pleased with the result, considering I've spent less time than I would have liked
