Description
Finally finished! I was working on this bit by bit during the last weeks.
Originally based on a sketch made for *R151n9 and now in fancy colours! Looking back, the original sketch is so crappy, lol. I reworked like everything from the pose, the anatomy issues and even gave it a background cause characters shouldn't just live in some ominous empty space, should they?
What else to say? Used Painter this time. Currently I tend to either use PS or Painter but switch less between the two as compared to last year or so.

Hmm... he's sexy. And he seems like a rather cheeky character.
I think I especially like his facial expression, but the shading is rather good as well. Gotta love the "morning purple".
I'm not sure about the shading on his right arm though. Something about it seems odd.
Other than than, its a good picture!

That's the thing. I'm not quite sure. It's something with the shading on the lower part of the arm that bothers me. Maybe it should cover more of the arm than just the top bit near the elbow. Possibly a shadow stretching further along the observer's right side of the arm would do it, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, don't mind me too much. It's just a minor detail after all.

I can surely say I prefer it to the sketch version, and the strong lighting is so eye-catching! Not to mention it directs us to the important thing...his faaaceee!!!
Oh and I also adore the little light strokes on the hair, adds an extra touch of detail

To be honest, that expression did not work with the painting and looked kinda awkward. Idk, some things just look good as a pencil sketch. :/

It's just that I have the same trouble with colouring my sketches and it's sometimes a bit disappointing that some of the lines don't work with paintings.

This is a wonderful example of how light and muted colors can really set the mood for a piece. The lighting gives a great sense of "just waking up," as your title implies (though I think the light could be even more subtle/warm; right now it seems a tad too harsh) and really highlights the painting you've done.
His expression's great, too. I really like almost everything about this. Good job!

Yeah, the light would probably be a bit more realistic if it was more diffuse and soft. But it started as an exercise with bright (harsh?) light and I just stick with it in the end.
