Winchester M1 Carbine

A lightweight carbine developed for support troops of the US Army, providing them with a reliable rifle that was not as cumbersome as the M1 Garand. Largely based on the earlier Winchester self-loading rifles, the carbine fired the lightweight .30 Carbine round, which granted superior power to pistol cartridges while retaining power and range. Alongside the main carbine a folding stock version, the M1A1, was also produced. The original version had flip-up sights, which were replaced with a ladder sight in 1944. The carbine did not have a bayonet and was instead issued with the M3 fighting knife, this was changed in 1945 with the addition of a bayonet lug to all existing carbines and the issuing of the new M4 bayonet, based off the M3 knife. It was used mostly as a rear guard and paratrooper weapon throughout WW2 and remained in use throughout the Korean and Vietnam wars. Nowadays it has become a popular civilian firearm.
