Ashflower, however, had woken hours prior. He was restless, missing his family and his mentor's presence. The den was empty, void of even another soul, now that nearly every cat was free of the sickness and Cricketleap had gone back to sleeping with the warriors. But the night was silent, deathly so, and his nest was cold, and he found himself unable to rest effectively. He traveled on silent paws out into the falling snow; it poured down from the sky and muted the sounds of the forest he now lived amidst. He poked his head into the nursery and then out again quickly, satisfied to see Apple's rotund form lying still in her nest; and then he crossed the camp and exited into the forest. "Just going for a walk," he muttered dismissively to the camp guard, flicking his tail. "Night time is the best time to search for ...tansy." A lie, of course; but what could they say? He was the doctor here. He traveled through the snow, through the forest. This path was unfamiliar still, and even moreso when covered in thick snow that seemed to be coming down just as heavily if not more than before. But he knew the way to the river, and so he let his whims take him, all the way to the rivers edge. He looked across, at the familiar land where he'd sat, so many times, waiting for Apple. He shivered as the wind followed the curve the river took, spraying him with ice cold mist from the river's edge. Maybe I'll go visit patch.

But as he paced closer to the water, setting his paws upon the ice, he found himself unable to cross. Like a barrier held him in place, he was only a few pawsteps out onto the solid sheet of ice as he stood, staring blankly into the trees at the other side. It smelled.... unfamiliar to him. He'd never felt like snakeclan had a scent before, but now it lingered in the air, unfamiliar and foreboding; and Ravenclan's scent was all but invisible on the border now, only there is he focused on it. And all this made him feel different; like this place wasn't the one he'd visited so many times, like the place across the river wasn't ever a place he'd stood at all. Its image twisted, now that he looked upon it from this side. Everything looked just out of place; like he was looking at a reflection that just wasn't quite right. His walk back was slow and silent. Tears froze the fur on his cheeks to frosty crystals and gathered snowflakes on his cheekbones and along his whiskers. He missed Pinetail. He missed Snowheart. He was going to miss his sibling's apprentice ceremony. What the hell was he doing? By the time the camp was in sight again, his paws were cold and numb from the snow, and his eartips were flush from the cold and from crying. From the angle he'd returned, camp looked awkward and inconspicuous; a mass of bushes and trees and fallen brambles lining the camp's edge. He almost missed her-- Except he didn't, because she was a little too round for the hole she was trying to squeeze out of. He sat down, crumpling his brow and drawing his lips into a pursed frown. "And where exactly do you think you're going?" He asked pointedly, "You look ridiculous Apps."

Common Post >>>
He led her through the snow; the sheets of falling snow removing all traces of their footprints as they walked, as if the pair had never gone anywhere at all. "Let me know if you're getting tired." Ashflower flicked his ear a little, throwing a glance over his shoulder to make sure she as keeping up. "What has you up so late, then? Surely Acornkit wasn't making too much of a fuss tonight."
